I think I'd try it with just some vent tube extensions first. I did the BRPV because of running E85 on boost and not having "E85 specific" metering blocks. Here's my extensions, I flared the ends before installing the carb...

Nice! why did you flare the ends? cosmetic or does it affect the way they work?

Just to make it catch as much of the airflow as it can. You could probably measure the difference, but I doubt it's critical.

Ok so thats definitely some thing I want to do is vent extensions. What about hat options. not looking for a race set up just some thing low and functional. I dont have allot of hood clearance being the truck is body dropped.

is there a reason one of your tubes looks smaller?

The lower/shorter the hat, the less effective it will be IMHO. If it's too tall, get a shorter intake manifold. Mine is a CSU, VERY similar to the EV hats.

Yeah I like my intake allot. Its a original Torquer 289 very rare intake and makes good power. Its not very tall either. I would have to go back to a almost stock intake to gain a inch of clearance. I understand a shorter hat wont flow as well but really once it makes boost a little bit of a flow restriction cant be that big of a deal on a low hp street truck..... The box is the worst flowing thing I have ever seen and through a C6 with a vortec on a very similar motor the car made 395 on 7psi. My trucks a manual and a roller motor other than that our cams and all are very close. I would be perfectly happy with 415-420 and keep the boost down 10psi or less. Another words i dont mind it losing 3-5 hp as long as it does not cause a drivability issue. The box basically inputs into the side of the carb then the air has to go up around the cab. I dont see even a low hat being more restrictive than that. IMG_20131029_165012.jpg #ad

Just a idea of clearance. I had a 1inch spacer on it when I had this bird catcher on it. The one inch spacer is gone and I am going to try and lower the motor about a half inch in the truck during the rebuild. I really want to run the stock hood on the truck un cut and un scooped.

It's not flow restriction I'd worry about, it's smooth flow vs. turbulent, I.E. mixture distribution. From everything I've read, and seen for myself, the shorter the hat, the worse the mixture distribution. The air needs a little distance, and a nice smooth radiused curve, to make that 90° turn without a lot of turbulence. Carbs don't measure, and mix fuel with, turbulent air very well. ;) :coolio:
