Mercury Comet that I wasn't looking for

Started putting stuff together, trying to figure out the cooling system. Radiator got pushed towards engine to make room for intercooler. Ended up selling the small mustang radiator and going to a wider 68+ Mustang, which was several inches wider which let me offset dual fans and give me clearance around the water pump pulley. Exhaust is 3.5 all the way out, engine bay is so tight I couldn't fit it past the engine on either side, so I opted to run a lift off hood and shoot it out the drivers wheel well. This may go under the car eventually.

Literally the entire exhaust at this point. Was very concerned with how loud it would be. Dual fans, not much room for a shroud but need to look into that more. Was trying to work with the stock tank, but just wasn't happy with what I was finding. Ended up with a 16 gal cell, AEM pump, 100 micron filters, 10 an to pump, 8an to reg, 10 an return, aeromotive 13301? regulator, dual 6an to bowls. Wayne at Henry's Fabrication in Calvert helped me a lot along the way.

Better shot of the cell with lines to it. Had to drill out the hole in the sump, it had -8 fittings, went to 10 for the pickup. Added the -10 return fitting, rollover valve, and used some leftover -6 for the vent. Stuck a cheap pcv filter on the vent hose outside the car under the rear bumper. 20200501_180413.jpg #ad

First drive with the turbo, still needed ALL of the tuning. Broke up any time I throttled enough to start to spool, but I knew I was just getting started.

Got some carpet in, what a difference. Opted for no mass backing but it came with jute where it needed it. So much nicer to drive. Swapped the ugly cheap wheel I had with a Joe's Racing Aluminum and Grant QD. Would love to put the stock wheel on a disconnect haha. Spent much time just driving it and fine tuning it early summer.

Forgot to mention ignition, I'd been using a bargain barn MSD 6A, and an MSD ignition coil that came from my neighbor. Well in the spirit of cheating out on things, I'm still using that with the centrifugal advance locked out via springs removed and plates screwed together. I need a 6A programmable at the very least, but I'm not sure where I'm going from this point. 20200328_164836.jpg #ad

Pins installed for the hood, cut a hole for the carb hat to fit. I'm running a 1 inch spacer under the hat to try to clean up the air, haven't tried running without it.

Found these aluminum louver panels cheap on ebay, figure it needs all the help it can get under there. Ended up with a thunderbolt style teardrop scoop with rear vents, again an ebay find. Cut a giant hole in the center and riveted it on.

With the scoop painted and installed. Looks better with a hood! Don't expect the turbo until you hear it spool.

Now to do something about those baby tires out back....I've always like the early gas class cars, super stocks, altered, etc. Love seeing pictures of the home built guys just chopping stuff until it works. I need big tires....

Both sides had rust and bondo cracking through over the back wheels, and holes through the lower 1/4 behind the back wheels. August in SOMD was not the best time to be doing this, but I'd started so no stopping.

After some hammering, filler, and some rattle can, some wet sanding actually blended it fairly well. It's the wrong black, but it's black. Threw the 30" back on the daydream. Borrowed it from my friend's dad for fitting. Almost went with the same tires but they were HEAVY AS HELL, and heard they sucked for anything other than cruising a car show.

A few months later, my 15x10 TTs showed up. Finally. It's starting to look like something. Wet sanded and buffed the entire car, what a difference! Still looks like shit up close, but going down the road it at least looks like something.

Tinkering with the tune here and there, just getting better and better. Driving it everywhere I could, taking fancy Instagram pictures. This one actually got reposted by Summit I think. I dont like attention(hard to avoid in this car) but it's nice to receive some every once in a while!

Made some sweet plexiglass sun visors. This is "teleworking" every other day kicking in. Also made a rear firewall out of .040 6061. Need to fill a couple small spots but I'm pretty pleased. Removed the rear glass to make it easier, needed a seal anyway. What a pain in the ass. 20201216_170652.jpg #ad

That brings it up to this past weekend. Currently waiting on heater box seal kit, so I can install the new heater core since wife enjoys riding in it now. Will be nice to not be in a refrigerator the whole way to work when it's 40* in the morning. Any questions or concerns feel free to tell me I did something wrong. This forum helped me a ton with the turbo build, from plumbing to tuning. Thanks everyone past and present that has left good info here.

I like the car and the build.

'62 Comet is the last of the MEL design studio Jet-Age styling of the late 50's. (60-63) cockpit styled interior, Vestigal wings, front fender intake gills and front fender Gunsights .

Thank you! Yeah I saw it on Craigslist for a few weeks, started doing some research and realized it was a pretty cool car and all the falcon/mustang stuff fits. Figured I would do a simple small block and cruise around in it. I've had it since 2017, sold my swapped BMW to start working on it.

Started cleaning up the air box, getting the last of the mouse piss and rust out, shot the outside with a light mist of trim/bumper paint. 20210209_200013.jpg #ad
