Made every SBSO event, and now for the past 7 years straight I've made the Quick 16.

Thought I was going to have a good shot at going rounds this year, until my first pass (8.9@151). Last year on 29psi I ran a 8.57@165 staging deep and riding the rev limiter. All day Friday, no mater what I tried I couldn't get better then a 8.80@154 (went 8.74@155 in the cool Saturday morning air). Best we can figure is last year when the engine rev'd to 7600 I hurt the valve springs and/or lifters. Checking the lifters friday i found I could compress some lifters by hand.

Out of the 9 passes I made over the 3 days, the worst 60' was 1.35 and the best was 1.27. So at least the suspension is still working lol.

On the cruise I realized I never put more E85 in the car. Ack. So I had 4 passes on the 15 gallon tank going into the cruise. Made it with no problems though. On the last pass, I tried to lift for the 9 sec win. I lifted before 1000' but still rolled through at a 9.03@128. Scrub'd 26 mph but not enough ET. Needed a 9.25 for a 9.00.

I had planned on turning the boost controller to 100% (was at 75%) but thought Brett in the 1st round was only a 9.1 car and the 8.8s I was running was enough so I left it alone. Then I screwed up the pass and let Brett tree me. Oh well I'll be back again next year with more power :)

Not bad for a 3500# car with an AOD with lockup lol

Checked the compression and springs today. Compression is 98-104 across the board. Which it was only 105-110 fresh.

The springs are the ones that came on the 205 cnc heads. 125 lbs. @ 1.800" installed height and 376 lbs. @ 1.180" open. They checked 100 lbs @ 1.800" and 350 lbs @ 1.180". So they are weak. The cam card actually wants 414 @ 1.250". I ran these springs cause the machine shop said they where fine. But now I'm at 70lb less then it wanted at 1.250". Guess I'll order the crane springs the cam card recommended in the first place. Which I bought and returned when I first put these heads on since the machine shop said I didn't need them.

Great to hear you got it checked and are going to correct it Tony. Keep us updated on how it does with the new springs, make sure you check the tune also. Good luck man.

Changed the valve springs out today, can tell a difference just looking at them. New crane spring is on the left and the stock TFS spring is on the right.

Freshening time looks like for my 331. I was changing the water out after doing the valve springs and just had the water pump running. I noticed a very small puddle of water on the floor after I was done. Right in the middle of the engine. The side of the block under #7 was damp. Pulled the head off today and it looks like it just did start to push the gasket out on #7. I guess I shouldn't of turned up the boost controller to 85 from 80 on that last pass in Bradenton. Figure if I'm pulling the heads, I might as well rebuild/freshen it since it's been in the car since the start of 2009.

Probably change the cam while I'm at it.

Not sure yet, thinking about it. Like the simplicity of hyd roller though :)

    10-4 will do.

The next question I am pondering, is it time to give up the lockup AOD......

Dunno, gotta think about the trans and cam (if I want to stay Hyd roller or change to solid roller).

So my friends through a idea at me, my son of course loves it. I dunno yet. We were putting a stock 302 together for his, but the GT-40 heads had a bad valve job.

Freshen my current boss 331 and move it with a TFS Stage 1 cam into my son's 90 with a little turbo he has

And then build me a new 331 with stronger internals and the 11r 205 TW heads.
