Well, successfully got it "road worthy" for the summer. Drove it to work on the nice days from September to October and made a list of things to fix. Runs pretty good for a little 318 car.

Once the weather turned gross, I hollowed out a space in my car hole and got back to work.

Time to turbocharge this turd! A keen eye will note my awesome upper rad hose, supplemented with a piece of chainlink fence post for a better fit. Also, my $105 '69 Camaro radiator. And ghettofab Sloppy Mechanics turnbuckle alt bracket and 80's 100A GM alternator.

My Dakota manifolds don't dump in a good spot, so I'm gonna pick up some el cheapo Dakota headers to chop up. I figure I can cut that down angle off the left one, and put a tight 90 up there to the flange. Then the crossover can run under the balancer and be all good. I think I may try to hack together a Mustang II manual rack conversion to gain some more driver's side space, and better steering. (right now, it's almost scary)

Super pumped that I got to drive it all fall. Can't wait to get some real power under that peeling stock hood! :welder:

:2thumbs: what is the spray paint outline on your hood from?

I actually don't know what that's from. The previous owner did it. I think it adds character though. :) Hopefully it'll add to the embarassment of the future victims of its stealthiness. I like me a quick car with a flat hood.

Hard to believe an old man could drive with a cigarette in his left hand and a beer in his right with that old steering. Not like today's cars.

Getting to drive it for awhile had to be fun.

I love these rough around the edge cars. Sleepers rule. Keen to see how she goes under boost.

Merry Christmas to me! Ordered me some sacrificial headers and am about to order a turbo. I'm looking at the eBay GT45's because I'm pretty broke. Does this look like it'll be a decent fit?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/400895353296

    Its specs are:
Exhaust (Turbo Manifold) Flange: Standard T4 4-Bolt
    Exhaust (Downpipe) Flange: 3.50" V-Band
    Intake Inlet/ Outlet: 3.75" / 2.25"

    Compressor:
    Trim: 69
    A/R: .66
    Inducer/ Exducer (mm): 68.70 / 97.80

    Turbine:
    Trim: 92
    A/R: 1.05
    Inducer: 87.40 / 77.00

    My combo is:
    318" SBE, ported J heads, 9.5:1
Single plane intake, Quick Fuel mechanical 750
    224/224 @ .050, .478/.478 lift, 114LSA, 112ICL
    RMVB 727, 10" 3000ish converter
    3.23:1 '489 SG 8 3/4

Goals are 10.80s out of a fair weather driver. Do you guys think that cheapo china turbo will get me close?

Also, a progess pic. Got a 12 gal fuel cell w/ sender off of craigslist for $75.

And I'm working on either making a cluster or hiding my gauges behind the factory cluster. Wanna be a sleeper. :D

Started eyeballing everything. This thing is huge! Still waiting on headers and a flange.

I was surprised at the size of the gt-45 when I first got mine to. Love the look of your car, also that fuel cell looks right at home.

Thanks man! I wanna keep it unassuming looking, like I slapped a set of wheels on a beater.

Are you gonna be cutting any of the inner fender out?

I'm going to do my best to avoid it, but I may end up having to. Part of me wants to do a 4" fender exit exhaust, just for grins. Maybe I'll end up using an electric cutout for it. Shooting fireballs at the stoplight on the 2 step sounds like fun. Would kindof kill the sleeper deal though.

Making some progress on the cluster. Gonna take a pic of the stock speedo and get it printed on a transparency, stick it in the hole, then hide the wideband behind it. Probably gonna ditch the oil pressure gauge for a light and put a gas gauge in that spot. Still waiting on the headers.

    Haha, I just might.

So I bought some cheapy eBay headers for a Dakota/Durango and they don't even remotely fit. :bang: So it's back to trying to make the manifolds work. Gotta get a manual steering box.

Great thread, keep the info coming. I've got a 72 Duster that I want to do the same thing. I love to see homemade turbo setups with all the problem solving and enginuity people come up with. I'm dying to see how that turbo combination works out.

Thanks man! From what I've read, the magnum truck cast iron manifolds fit facing forwards if you run a manual steering box. Some hackery may be required, but I'm definitely not above that. :D
