Woot! Progress! I finally got around to finishing my spring relocation and narrowing my rear axle housing. Still need to find some bits and pieces for the diff and order some axles, then I can get it rolling! It's just got a piece of pipe in between the chopped up stock axles so I could set it back on the suspension and check ride height. Here's a step by step of the hackery:

Stock C body housing meets the chop saw:

Professional mock-up with super tight tolerences:

Then cranked up the welder and let 'er rip.

Back on the suspension for the first time in like 3 years! I think I want to get taller/wider tires for the rear. Something like a 28x12.50 or so, but it's an oddball size in a 17" wheel.

Got a couple of odds and ends taken care of this weekend. Put the car back on the ground to get the garage cleaned out. I like how it sits! Gonna look into getting some .75" or 1.0" spacers for the rear wheels to get them to match the fronts a little better. I centered them in the wells and don't like how it looks. The weight of the turbo stuff should get the front end to sit about .75" lower and make the stance perfect. So close I can taste the first road test!

    In for the vid.
X2 on slight rear wheel spacing.

Had same "look" on my 68 Mustang and 3/4 inch made it much better.

I would stuff a wider tire in there if possible... Then add a thin spacer if needed... Be careful going with any spacer thicker than about 1/4".

Well, I took the maiden voyage at 11 or so the other night! Didn't go far, but it drives, stops, shifts and everything! No wheels fell of, no fires, no (major) leaks! And it seems to run pretty darn good for all junk-o used/cheap/free parts. Has no trouble spinning the old 8" slicks I had laying around.

Got the alternator from the parts store today (a 94 amp Delco 12si) and ordered up the N/A exhaust bits so I can actually drive it to work! I happened to acquire a pair of free Volvo turbos off 2.5 5 cylinders, so I'm debating if it's worth the trouble to try and make them work. On the other hand, I could probably sell them for enough money to buy a china t76 sized something. Anyway, here's the proof! (Sorry for the lousy potato I shot the video with, gonna work on getting some real video. It's healthy enough to be a handful while trying to film and drive.)

LOL, doing it right takes too long. After seeing denmah rock out a build in a week and go easy 10s, it's hard to bide my time and save for real parts. Next build is gonna be an LS swapped 87 hatch done sloppy style. These Mopars are WAY too expensive!

Lol yes i hear ya!!! Buicks are expensive too!!!

At least pick the setup or turbo combo you want though so you dont have to re do the turbo kit again later...

Building the kit is the easy part! That's just a bunch of exhaust pipe! The hard part is affording the real parts and the fuel system to support them. But I finally paid off the Snap-On man, so we should be golden!

Woo! Traded a pos old car trailer I had taking up space in the backyard for a real carburetor! Maybe I can finally get this hooptie to run like a real car! Little man thought it was cool. Didn't want to give it back. :) Getting the final details sorted out and should be able to drive it to work in the next couple of days!
