After 4 years on blocks and jack stands it’s finally off!! Been 7 years since I could crank an engine over in this truck. Was running the starter and its a weird feeling. Hoping I don’t need all of the sensors efi does for initial startup, just a tps for the terminator x startup and if I get spark I’m going for it next weekend! I’ll get the rest of the sensors I need bonfire it’s on the road. For now I just want it to idle. 6750284D-97F4-48FC-B76E-00E951251ED9.jpeg #ad

With a carb, I would think you need cam and crank sensors. MAP might be nice so it knows where to be on the to be on the timing table.

Can't remember if there are spark modifiers for coolent and air temp. O2 shouldn't matter other than you will not know what it is.

It lives!!!! I was able to just plug in a cheap tps sensor to get through the initial wizard setup on the terminator x, then just cam and crank sensors are all I have otherwise. Second try it fired off and idled. 45-50psi oil pressure. Was able to drive it around the driveway and get it washed as well. It’s super rich and like 8-10 degrees on timing. I’m going to wait until I can get the other sensors installed and all wrapped up before I mess with it anymore.

Got a healthy leak out of the valve cover and some coolant fittings leaking. Otherwise so far it’s pretty solid! 6FD10EE6-ED8F-4056-A343-64B84424F79E.jpeg #ad

Couldn’t resist, had to load it a little just to hear the turbo whine.

Been battling a few issues but got some parts in to drive the truck finally. Motion raceworks vacuum block and got a rife 3 bar map and rife IAT sensor. Seems like the map sensor isn’t reading correctly though. I’ve scaled it in the tune as motion says to, reads 100kpa with the engine off then drops to 60-70kpa once the engine is idling but never rises much more than that. Tough to drive since the timing is never in the correct place. Battling a super rich carb condition too. But she runs and that’s all that matters! IMG_2979.jpeg #ad

100kpa is normal atmosphere pressure. So that's correct with the engine off. Less is vacuum. More is boost.

You can always hook shop air and a pressure reg to the map and make sure its reading correctly.
If you have a hand vac pump you can test it the low side.

Depending on the cam you have, it may be correct.
My bird idles at 12 inch vac. which is 60ish kpa.

To add, if you adjusted idle speed before timing or idle mixture , you may have the blades open too far making it idle up on transition causing richness.

It seems it never comes back to 100kpa even with throttle or into low boost. I can hear the turbo start to whistle and the truck starts picking up but the map stays in vacuum.

I was going to try regulated air today and see if it read that at all. Good idea.

Sent ~20psi of shop air to the map sensor and it read 160kpa which is pretty accurate. So then I figured maybe what I think is boost based off turbo noises isn’t actually boost. So I took it out and got on it a little harder and actually saw 3lbs of boost on my manual gauge and around 115kpa on the holley dash. So now I know that’s squared away. Need to do some more pulls but at a quick glance afr was 11.25-11.5 under boost which may be a tad rich but for now I can live with it. It’s the cruising and idle I’d like to get resolved so still working on that. Quick video of that Borg Warner whine

Had a little 4” stainless pipe leftover at work from a project so decided to change my exhaust tip to stainless and also make it about 1” longer to get the heat away from the paint more while cruising. When it was running really rich it showed how much could get blown onto the truck. It’s been clean since I’ve leaned it out but just taking a precaution. IMG_3024.jpeg #ad
