When did the 5 Ltr stop using forged pistons??

    Tried the search button but couldn't find info..
    When did the 5ltr windsor stop using forged pistons?
    How good are they ?? Brand Clearance etc ??

    They stopped using them in the later 1992 models and throughout 1995.

    They stopped using them in early 93. I have a very early 93 gt that came with the forged trw's from the factory. Ford must have used the remaining forged pistons they had left over from 92 in the early 93 models.

    stanggod when was your engine made, also how can you tell there forged and not hyper?

    From what I could tell the forged motors were gray. Hyper motors were painted black.

    FWIW my 92 motor has hypers, the only sure thing imo, is the 87-90 motors although odviously other people have had different experiences

    Yeah, because both of my 92s came with forged. One was built very early in the product run and the other very late.

    but anyway, what about in an 82 block? were they cast back then? or did i actually get lucky this time and get one with forged pistons?

    Forget it, trw forged piston were oem equipement only in 87-92 5.0HO
    Those have specials rings, I think they are metric.standard3\16 wont fit.

    I know 82-84 5.0HO have very weak pistons flat top with valve relief.I ever had a bad experience with them, they cant handle High RPM.

    Just my .02$

    well thats good, but i just talked to the guy i bought my engine from, said he put speed pro forgeds in it, so i shouldnt have anything to worry about there should i?

    Thats what I have in my engine. Those are good pistons for our streets machines.
