I split the stock 302 block so i'm going with a 351w. I don't want to buy a new turbo so my question is will the T70 be ok?
The motor will be a basic edelbrock performer head, rpm intake, f-cam, 6000 rpm max, 9:1 compression, .96 housing.
All I want is for the car to go 10.0's
    Thanks for the help.

I think you could get away with the 70, not ideal but it would work. I am looking to step up to a 351 also and am considering the new mpt76. I don't think it would cost you very much to upgrade to the 76. What did you get out of the 302 for times before you split her?

The best it went was a 10.12@136. 15lbs,28*, 110 race gas, single 255 pump wth stock lines,c4 trans. little too lean.

Its def possible. Im guessing youve got a Fox by your name. What kind of 60' did you see with the old setup off the footbrake?

Those are some great times. I have the same combo that you were running except with World Sr heads. I have only run the car with the stock longblock and am not sure I want to put them on the 302 or just do a 351 and be done with it. What kind of kit do you have or is it a diy? I don't want to change my kit too much so I may just stay 302. If I were you I would try to sell the 70 and buy something a little bigger. Do you have any times at 10 psi? Keep us updated, I am very curious to see how you make out.

We have a 8.2 deck 363ci and we used a mp70 at first... it was too small the motor only made 525whp. The stock 302 with a 62mm made 577whp? On the same 363ci we just put a s480 on it and made 740whp. I like the idea of a 76 better.

If I were in your shoes, I would consider the following....MP T-76 or BW400/475 with .96 T4 housing or T6. Those two appear to be best bang for your buck.

    not to hijack but...

What needs to be changed in the kit to go from a 302 to a 351?

70 is not the best turbo for your application as mentioned above. go with a 76 and you should be able to run those numbers comfortably without having to drive your car like you stole it.

I would not go with a MP-76 as the turbine side is too small. At least a s-turbine wheel or the best bang for the buck a S400 with the 1.32 96mm turbine wheel. Back pressure is going to kill performance or the motor with large cubes and small turbine.

I don't like any of the MP turbo's. Get a Precsion or Turbonetics 76 and you will be set. Things that you can buy cheap brand new is not because they want to give you a deal, its because the quality components are not there like the the Turbo leaders in Precsion and Turonetics. Just my 2 cents.

Mine was a completly stock 351 with Edelbrock heads (The base ones), F-cam and the Trickflow. With the MP T70 it made 538/599 on 10#'s with only 15 degrees of timing in it. Never really got it to run right as it kept shitting head gaskets, which I solved by putting a MLS gaskets on but then a piston took a shit. I am going to try the same turbo on a 408.

I never did check backpressure on the old setup, but I will on the new one. It wont be untill sometime in March before I get the car to the dyno, but I will post the results when I do.

I would add pistons if the shortblock is stock.

I will be your headgasket issue is a result of backpressure from the small turbine wheel. Yes it made power at an expence. Your motor and timeslips will thank you for giving it a larger turbine wheel. If you try the same on the 408 you will have a quicker failure than the 351. Twin mp-70's would be nice on a 408, not a single.

Oh I know it will be small, just have no choice at this time. The motor will have MLS's from the start, so there should be no issues there. Like I said, I will monitor the back pressure and post the results when I get it to a dyno. Id like to get a S380 to replace it with, but I dont see how I can get a 4inch downpipe to fit on my combo. I will tackle that as time moves on.
