Using a wastegate on the cold side to control boost and spool times

Has anyone done this with success? The theory is to open the wastegate with co2 pressure, this will alow the turbo to spool easier. Then when you release the transbreak, wastegate closes and instant boost pressure. Trick is to figure out how much to open wastegate to keep turbo from over spinning and damaging the turbo. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

It's been done for years, both on turbo cars and blower cars. Turbo guys have used it for the reason you state. Blower guys use it to control the amount of air the blower is pushing into the engine, so it in turn works similar to how a hotside wastegate does on a turbo car.

Take a look here. It should answer most, if not all, of the questions you may have about it. ;)
