Hey guys, I have a 1977 Dodge D100 pickup with a 225 slant six and 3spd manual column shift and would love to do a turbo setup on it. It will ultimately end up being a show truck and weekend driver, so the setup has to be super clean. I'd also like it to make enough power to be a fun cruiser that may surprise some V8 owners.

I have the original engine still in it but has oil pressure issues (I have a new oil pump ready to go in). I have another 225 slant out of a 1969 Valiant with 80K on it. I think the truck I have has probably 180K on it, but not sure. It says 80K on the odometer but when a friend of mine and I were redoing the suspension, he said there were things he pointed out that he thought looked like it had more like 180K on it.
Anyways, I was planning on doing a mild N/A build on the '69 engine and dropping it in the truck this year, then slowly doing a turbo build on the original engine, but not sure if I wanna do that or just throw the N/A stuff I have on the original motor, fix the oil pressure issue and drive it, while building the turbo setup on the '69 engine. I'd rather not rebuild an engine because I heard the slants are very stout and can handle boost with totally stock and original parts.

Now lets talk parts...I have been doing some reading on the site and an '86-87 Grand National turbo seems to be popular, but I have a friend who has an H1C from a 12v Cummins. He said there is zero shaft play and thinks the seals are just fine on it. It also has a 12cm/.81 a/r turbine housing for quicker spooling. He said he would sell it to me for $200. Would that be a good matched turbo for the 225?

I also have a Super Six intake with 2bbl carb that I was going to slap on the engine for the N/A build but I could always buy another Super Six intake/carb, or get an Offenhauser 4bbl, but not sure if a 4bbl would be much better than a 2. I don't know anything about carbs anyways. But I would like to stay carbeurated and not fuel injected. Just want a nice streetable truck.

Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

BTW...here's my truck for your viewing pleasure :)

Nice looking truck. Have you made any progress. Since joining this site I'm embarking on a magnum v6 turbo build and most likely a build for my 63 Dart slant 170. I've got the super 6 setup on my dart as well. Keep the thread updated maybe we can bounce ideas back and forth.
