When I blow the motor up I plan on going to a 88mm so the whole setup will have to change

The 38mm should be fine. Can't hurt to step up to the 44mm. Regardless of size, wastegate placement is just as / if not more important. Twin 38mm's, one on each up pipe would be the right way to do it.

I am gonna put the wastegate right before the Turbo flange. Right after the two pipes meet together....

Seems that's where most people put them that I have seen........

Do yourself and your wallet a favor and buy a bigger gate the first time around...if you plan on going to an 88mm turbo later, I'd buy no smaller than a 50mm gate.
