Hello everyone out there. Newbie here and I have my 1st Turbo build and I have a question.

93 mustang 306, head, cam, T76 now and Holley ECM.
Replace BOV, Waste gate and turbo.
check piping, intercooler nothing leaking not even an exhaust leaks.

Can some one give an idea why I can build any boost.
Only tune so far it stock set up from Holley.

 

Greetings!! I assume you are not seeing any boost while driving? If you are just sitting in the driveway trying to see boost it won’t work. Engine needs a load on it .

 

Also did you remove the fire ring from the waist gate?

 

Great for the for the fast response. long time that I've on a forum. But when under load.
maybe 1psi if that. but no boost through the power band.

I install the ring was I not suppose to.

I had to push down on the waste gate in order to install the clamp.

 

Yes you need the ring.

 

Can you post a few photos of your engine bay, specifically the turbo plumbing hot and cold sides.

Can you spin the compressor wheel easily by hand? I had a piece of welding wire get in the turbine once, couldn't get any boost.

 

Spins freely, just replace it thinking the turbo was binding at high RPM

This weekend I'll be pulling apart again. Also I'll be doing a cylinder balance test to make sure of everything.

 

Can you show us a view looking in to each endo of the turbo. (Still can't get out of my head the guy who had anti-CW wheels in CW housings - or something like that)

 

Before you take the engine down, did you do a boost leak test? I made a leak tester out of a piece of PVC pipe with an air chuck fitting that was the same 4 in diameter as a coupling hose for the turbo the turbo inlet. If you put 10 psi into the inlet tract and you hear air rushing out, that is somewhere to look. Have you tested the waste gate to see if it opens where you think it does?

 

Does it have any other symptoms? Other than no boost how does it drive? If it drives good, I would assume it's not the engine.

Does it run fine other than no boost? If so I agree a leak test. You may just be leaking the pressure

 

Ok! it's boosting finally. Was able to work on the car. Found out inner cooler leaking. Big leak!!!! Ran the cold side straight to the throttle and wala I have boost. Thank for all the help guys.
