Went to the track again Friday night. Last weekend car was running like total crap bogging and just very lazy thruout the first 1/8th mile. Was only running mid 9's @ 151-152. Thought it was way too rich off the t-brake. Well, AFR was only 12:1 on the 'brake, not bad. So I decided to add about 4* timing below 10psi boost and just see what happens. Also turned off the 2 step and let it come up on the converter. DA was really good, started out around 1467' and ended around 947'.

    1st pass: launched at 5900rpm
    1.325 60'
    3.713 330'
    5.687 1/8th ET
    124.97 1/8th MPH
    7.371 1000'
    8.776 1/4 ET
    159.35 1/4 MPH :chacha: :chacha:

    2nd pass: 2 step at 5500rpm
    1.297 60'
    3.661 330'
    5.616 1/8th ET
    126.51 1/8th MPH
    7.283 1000'
    8.757 1/4 ET
141.24 1/4 MPH (got out early)

    3rd pass: 2 step at 5500rpm
    1.294 60'
    3.646 330'
    5.818 1/8th ET
100.00 1/8th MPH (almost swapped lanes about 500' out)

Looking at the incrementals, I think had I stayed in it on the 2nd pass it would have went 8.6x's @ over 160mph. It's hitting the rev limiter on the top end BIG TIME though since my gear /tire combo is only good for about 153mph.

Wow! You turned some incredible times! Keep it up and get the tire/gear ratio figured out and you'll be really "flying"!!!

    Holy Crap Craig,

That's awesome! 4* of timing is making a huge difference. Good Deal.

Apparently the VP C-16 simply doesn't like to burn at low boost and conservative timing......it went from a blubbering, lazy running POS to running like a raped ape with only adding 4* timing.

Craig, how much boost were you using and are you still with the stock bowls too?

Great numbers and the C-16 is a tough fuel on low timing. Now everyone wondered why I use 32 psi of boost :chacha:.

Usually its seeing right at 15psi at 7100 thru the traps. Friday it was seeing 16-17psi at 7200 thru the traps, I think due to the denser air.

Stock bowls still, .140" N/S. Tried the .150's last weekend but couldn't seem to get my float level low enough so I put the .140's back in. Kevin is working on some dual N/S bowls for me now.

Timing was 38* base with the retard starting at 3psi and going to 34* at 10psi and 31* at 15psi.

    BTW, I'm only running 1/2 C16 and 1/2 Sunoco 112 too.

That is awesome! Timing makes a big difference. I run 35degrees locked non -intercooled with my turbo. My car is a giant turd with anything less. If it isn't detonating why not add timing?

Great to hear a little timing is all you needed. Hopefully you have a funny car rollcage I can see ou breaking the 8.50 mark.

No funny car cage. My current chassis cert. is good to 7.50's but it expires in a year, then it would only cert. to 8.50 under the new rules. I'll be building a new chromoly 25.5 cage this winter so it'll be good to 7.50's again. Not that I'll need much if anything past 8.50 but I'll feel safe. This mild steel 12pt cage makes me nervous sometimes.

    Can you get a 33 x 10.5 in there?

Thought has crossed my mind but I don't think the wheel tubs are big enough in diameter for a 33 at the ride height I want. Biggest tire I've had on there is a 32x16 and I have to put the back end up 1" higher. I'd have to check the growth and actual dia. of the 33x10.5's to be sure. I have an extra set of 14" wheels and I'm debating on buying a set of 32x14's to put on it for a while.
