Ford Motor Company just produced their 5 millionth EcoBoost®-powered vehicle, a manufacturing landmark that took only 6 years to accomplish. Worldwide production of vehicles equipped with the fuel-efficient turbocharged powerplant now stands at over 200,000 a month.

The recipient of the milestone turbocharged engine is a Ford Focus produced at the company's Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan. Ford now leads the pack in turbocharged vehicle sales in 3 different markets: The Escape is the best-selling turbo utility vehicle; the Fusion outsells all other turbocharged midsize cars; and the popular F-150 is the best-selling turbocharged pickup truck in the United States.
ecoboost.jpg The first EcoBoost® engine was a 3.5 liter V6 made available on the 2009 Ford Taurus SHO. Over 14,000 of the turbocharged vehicles were built that year, and production quadrupled in 2010 to almost 63,000 cars. By 2014 Ford had manufactured over 2 million fuel-efficient turbocharged cars and trucks.

2015 is also the first full year that technology-savvy consumers can choose an EcoBoost® engine in any Ford passenger vehicle offered in the United States. The direct-injected engines are manufactured in both 3 and 4-cylinder (1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3 liter) or 6-cylinder (2.7 and 3.5 liter) versions.

The shift toward producing more fuel-efficient vehicles is a cornerstone of the company's OneFord plan, their blueprint for sustained growth in transportation sales and solutions worldwide.
The 5 millionth EcoBoost® engine produced was a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder fuel miser that has already earned several industry accolades. Engine Technology International has crowned it the International Engine of the Year an unprecedented 3 years in a row, and Ward's Auto has named it one of their 10 Best Engines for the last 2 years.

Consumers who choose a new Ford Focus SFE equipped with the 1.0 liter powerplant can enjoy an EPA-estimated 42 MPG on the highway, as well as cutting-edge technology like active parking assist, a lane-keeping feature and a rear-view camera.
The 2015 Focus ST boasts 32 MPG highway mileage while supplying a staggering 252 horsepower, thanks to a 2.0 liter twin-turbo EcoBoost® engine. The potent ST can reach a top speed of 154 miles per hour'”not bad for an economy car.

In 2016, American car buyers will be able to buy a new Focus RS for the first time ever. The all-wheel-drive RS will be available with a 2.3 liter EcoBoost® that delivers 315 horsepower from 4 cylinders. The 2016 Focus ST was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and production is scheduled to begin sometime in 2015.
