I think its time for me to pull the 4r70w and go to a powerglide. I've been doing some research and learned some mod guys have issues with converter clearance causing problems. What setups are you guys using and what builders, and gear setups. I'm not sure what my power level is, but the car has been 8.48 @164. Its a 3v motor.

I would say if your in the 8s you need a glide or TH400 , whats your setup, 3V with what turbo and ..... ?

I use a Neal Racing Transmissions pro mod glide 1.80 gear (http://www.nealtrans.com/racing-transmissions.html) in a REID case and REID modular specific bell housing. For a converter I went with a Coan super mega 265mm bolt together with the aluminum drive cover at .185 clearance (http://www.coanracing.com/Catalog.asp?ProductDetail=151). For the crank adapter and flex plate we used ATI,(http://www.atiracing.com/links/pr/flexplate-ford/index.htm) they make modular specific parts that fit well and allow you to use any GM converter as long as it fits in your transmission, also their flex plate is dual pattern making things easier. My car weighs 3770 with me, and I use a 3.27 rear gear. I hope this helps.

 

Thanks for the info, what trans mount are you using? What does your car 60? Do you know the weight of the powerglide vs the 4r70w.

did the ati flex plate come with the pinion gear for the starter?

 

Yes it's pretty much stock with brake and OD. It's been broken twice since I hit mid 8s.
