i've just purchased a msd boost timing master

i would like to see some suggested settings for this unit.

timing reduction start point is adjustable from 0-5#of boost

also the retard function can be adjusted from 0-3* per pound of boost pressure

max of 15* timing retard with unit regardless of settings.

my current bbc timing is 22* initial + 12* mechanical = 34*total all in by 3200rpm.

running 91octane fuel in mile high elevations with an intercooler

Are you pulling timing with the current setup? It's pretty tough to give any kind of safe numbers without testing.

    i'm not pulling anything yet.
but it was indicated by several members that i should be.
my combo rev's quickly to about 5800rpm then not much more
it's a solid roller cam that should go much higher.
also the engine was running thru a 2.5'' full exhaust with restrictive flowmaster mufflers.
i have upgraded to 3'' exhaust with dynomax ultraflow mufflers to remove exhaust restrictions...

Typical mentality says that you should probably be pulling some, but with your elevation, the centrifugal, and your combo, who knows. Reading plugs, or some dyno/track time is the best way to tune it. If it were a new build of mine, i'd start by pulling at 2-3 psi, and pull 1.5 degree per psi from the 34.

Agree on the check timing and plugs
centrifugal - I usually don't pull as much as I would with turbo

What is your Compression ration and Boost level
Higher compression offers less room for error
    Same with Boost level

with the SMD box I pulled timing and then added back at upper rpms with Pcharged BBC

    boost should be 14-ish upload_2021-11-14_19-44-49.gif #ad

i have it pulley'd to hit max blower rpm at 6400-6500 engine rpm...
