    Here's my junkyard combo:

1994 Ranger short box - gutted
    1/2 back job with a 4 link

    newly rebuilt 357W, forged pistons
    Ported E5 heads
    cam not selected yet
    Stealth intake
    twin GM 6.5 turbo's
    C4 trans with a 3000 Hughes 10" converter

It's just a junkyard built toy for the track, nothing serious or hardcore impressive .I'd like to run 10lbs of boost/pump gas and keep the rev's around/under 5500 (reliability), I'm wondering about gear selection and tire height for my combo so I can mock up my 4 link height. Should I go with something like 3.73 gears and a 14x30 slick or 3.27's with a 13x27" slick....Idea's???

If you want it to "hook on dirt", go with the 14" x 30" or 32". I'm running a 10.5W x 29.5 on my Vega with a 3.25 geared 9", (4 link, old school Koni coil-overs, 2700 lbs with me in it, ready to race). It's been 9.66 @ 140 mph so far, and no where near maxed out yet.

To go 150 mph with these 29.5s and no more than 6000 rpm, figuring 10% converter slip, I'd need a 3.19 gear, my goal is to go 8.9x, and let the MPH fall where it may. I can take about another 100 lbs out of the car, by removing the two nitrous bottles and one of the two batteries, which would put me at 2600 lbs., in the car, ready to race. 2600 lbs and about 705 hp will get me an 8.9x. When I get my GOOD motor rebuilt, I'll add some gear to spin it maybe 1000~1500 rpm higher.

With a realistic goal, and the right converter, I personally like the p/g, 3.25, and a 28.5- 29.5" setup in a light car.....
