    Hi, all. Noob here..

Yes. I have read. And read, and read. For what I have, everybody and their dog says to use 3.27's or 3.31's.

    History:

I just went from mostly stock N/A with 3:73's in a stock trim fox to HCI 76mm turbo. I'm making at the shoes 449.7/483. I know I need a gear change,(I'm running thru the gears so fast I'm about to throw the needle smooth off my tach) problem is I'm broke from the tune/turbo/HCI/Christmas, and all I have on the shelf are the stock 3.08's and some frpp 3.55's. I really want to install the 3.55's, but something tells me it's going to be a waste of time and gear oil. Can someone weigh in here and give me advice to either wait and buy the correct gear, or which one I should install that I currently posses?

    Thanks guys.

Either will work just fine honestly. I have 3.55's with a 28" tall tire and it's about perfect IMO.

What tire, and trans? I would do the 3.08's on a small tire.

The tire is a BFG g- force zr radial. Looks like 26" tall with a tape. I may be going to a drag radial soon.

Nice looking Mustang! I would say the 3.55's would be a nice gear for your combo and wouldn't be too bad if you ever stuck a 28" tall drag tire under it.
I run a 4.10/28" tire combo with a C4 but my turbo t-bird isn't apples to apples as I run the turbo 2.3 and spin it to around 7500rpm.

Thanks for the compliments, and the input. I guess I need to look at drag radials and see what sizes are out there before I settle on a gear. I would assume a m/t 275/40 would be the same size but... you know...

All those dogs are pretty much right in my opinion. A 3.27-3.31 would probably be the best. The 3.55 with a shorter 26" tire is harder to hook (especially a 17" wheel). I have 275/60r15 DR's and 3.55's with a c4. It seems to work ok but that is a higher 1st gear than you have and that helps me out. I had a t5 behind this same combo and it would just want to spin on a launch. Some of that was from an aggressive clutch disc as well.

I would say, just run the current gear till you find a used set of 3.27's on craigslist or something.

Very nice looking car. I would say leave the 3.73. I don't think it is going to be a problem for you.

Well I talked with a friend that has a 97 GT with 3.27 gears in it and he agreed to trade for my 3.55's I tried to convince him to go with the 3.73's since his car is N/A, but he's afraid to hurt his highway milage ..

Thanks for the compliments and help fellas!

Hey I've just had a thought pop into my head.. and not sure if this is the right section to ask. If not I'll start another thread. I'm new to tuning and in my limited knowledge I'm concerned about changing gears throwing my torque curve off on my ve table. Boost is going to come on sooner, and I'm wondering if this will affect my mapping? Thoughts?

If you stay with a 26" tire, I would go the 3.08. If you decide to go to a 28" tire, use the 3.55. I have a 3.42 with a 28" tire in my Dart and wouldn't really want to go any shorter than that. I had 3.73's with a 26"tire and that was an asshole to drive. No way it would hook and the revs drove you crazy on the open road.
