I went to Norwalk this past weekend for a pontiac event. I switched to a new set of heads and intake for pontiac (CV-1's). It's a canted valve deal, more flow, better cooling, etc, etc.

Went right off the trailer 1st pass:

    1.299-60'
    5.50 @ 131- 1/8-mile
    8.48 @ 164- 1/4-mile
    Air was 2600'

    Next pass was aborted

    rained out on saturday

    Sunday 1st pass:
    1.38- 60'
    5.51 @ 132.83- 1/8-mile
    8.44 @ 166.97- 1/4-mile
    air was 3600'

    2nd pass:
    1.33- 60'
and the rest of the pas was aborted due to blowing the blower pipe off. So even if I would have just picked up from what I gained in the 60' it should have been a high 8.30 pass. Oh and the best part was the air on that pass was 4000'! Come'on Sept/Oct and good air! So with little tuning on the motor in the car I picked up .16 in Et and 5 MPH with the switch.

Big thanks to Tom V and Jeff Kinsler for their help this past weekend, I really appreciate it! :2thumbs:

Thanks guys! :2thumbs: As Tim and Brent said power management and more in the 60' will be a key issue! LOL The air was so bad that the converter wasn't flashing where it needed to be. It was about 500-600 off. I've never raced in conditions that bad that it affected the converter like that so it was a new deal for me.

    Rat,

If you can believe it...there were alot of ponchos there and I don't remember seeing it. Things were very hectic there because of the Saturday ran out.

He really has a little bitty 068 Tri-power camshaft in the car and a great sound system.

Well Tom that statement is not entirely false. My cam by today's standards is fairly mild! :D

"Tom, whats your opinion of the CV1's ?"

Early on I was a bit concerned about the end runner configuration with the "hook"
    back to the valve.

Observing Brian Hedrick's dyno testing and looking at the spark plugs and the air fuel ratio during the testing reduced my concern a Lot. I spoke with Jim S about this at the Pontiac Norwalk event.

Obviously the Tunnel Ram configuration with dual carbs would change everything on a naturally aspirated engine. Intake/ Head Port angles would be totally different.

With the F-2 Supercharger the velocity of the air going into the engine keeps the fuel in suspension vs having it "drop out" in the sharp turn on the end ports.

8.44 1/4 mile et out of a NON PORTED CV-1 head installed on basically a STREET CAR with Caltracks and a DR tire is very impressive. The engine should run 8.teens
at some point with the unported heads.

I like the CV-1 heads now that I have more real info on them. I never "did not like" the heads. Jim S next version of the CV head with the Ram Air V exhaust port configuration should be a great head for boost, especially with the "Convertible Port" (port looks like a SB Chevy length port VERY SHORT) and using Turbos.

Yes Brian, You do not have a 068 camshaft and you are correct as usual, your came is MILD vs the 1" lift cams out there today.
