Log headers, or more hot side?

    I've got a '74 f250 with a 460 that I'm trying to finally put a turbo on.

Originally the plan was to mount the manifolds down and forward as up and forward isn't an option due to head design. I went to mock them up and the passenger side gets into the motor mount a little bit but into the mount pedestal a lot. I figure I have two options, mount the manifolds the correct way and run the hot side up to the turbo (doesn't look fun) or buy a set of stub header flanges and weld pipe to them and pick a spot for my outlets.

Is one better than the other? Or just go with what's easiest? If I did the logs would 16gauge be enough for the main collection area?

On my 78 f150, which I think has the same frame I ran them in stock orientation. Passenger side runs under oil pan then up and back. My turbo sits nearly parallel with the front accessories. I'm using an S480. 20170121_161426.jpg #ad

Did you do a 180 on the drivers bank then? Looks good, what air filter?

Yes i did, the filter is AEM 21-2278BF. I don't like it very well though, it has a hard plastic throat and is brittle, its already cracked on one of the ears.

I appreciate the info. Do you have any pics of the hotside from underneath? I'll avoid that filter then. Thanks

I don't, however the engine is out and on a stand. I can bolt the hot side on and post a picture later on this week.

That would be awesome but you don't have to go to all that trouble. Is it a 460 as well? Specs on motor if it is if you don't mind? Thanks again.

Was a 472, blew it up and am prepping a 429. There is a build thread for it called project tetanus.
The 429 is a 73 block, sbe, with ported d3 heads, ~8:1 compression, performer non rpm, 2000 stall convertor and 260/260 lunati cam. No money for forged goodies. Fitech injection. Was running 9 lbs on the 472, ill drop to 6psi on the 429 to start.

Have just about all the hot side mocked up and tacked. Just have to figure out a spot for the wastegate. Thanks again for the help.

Looks real good. You will need a wastegate per side or you will have to y one in

Or do a single gate welded to the turbine housing.
