looking to build a 360 turbo setup, goals would be 450-500 RWHP, how streetable would that be with a 360ci block? Just kicking around ideas, if you run a high hp turbo setup, please chime in.

    Super streetable and docile.
If you are wanting a 450-500 rwhp street car on just pump gas -
you'll need to build the engine to make about 300 rwhp NA and then add 8 to 10 psi of boost.

Mine is VERY VERY streetable. It will idle all day in 90* heatin the traffic and has excellent throttle response. I even tuned the carb to run lean under cruise conditions. I have part throttle boost and full throttle tire terror. :2thumbs:

My only issue is with the carb... It will not start hot. I think it is the crap pump gas we have up here. It will spin over all day and not fire. My solution to this was a remote air tank hooked directly to the manifold via a electric activated solinoid. When it won't fire within a couple seconds of cranking then I give it a 1/4 second blast of air and it instantly fires.

I just finished my car and it cruises around like a stocker with heads, and 3.55's. Until you romp on it :D . I plan on putting in some 3.27's and it will be that much nicer!! good on gas too.

    awesome, great to hear.

so is it an good assumption that 600 crank is about the same as 500 RWHP? What are some components in a 360 you would put in there to get 500 rwhp with a turbo setup? Yall mind helping me build this on paper and brainstorm it? thanks

98% of it is in the tune. I and a few others have run far too many miles for it to be a fluke.

from my recollection, all 360's came w/ cast cranks. a forged piece w/ I beams and a girtle and maybe one of the higher nickle alloy blocks would definitely be an insurance policy. dont get me wrong, the stock bottom end was a well engineered piece; however, if you're wanting to push 1000# hp, not just a stockish engine w/ a turbo; an r3 block and all the related accessories would be needed.

well i wouldnt want to go much over 600hp as it will have a Viper 6 speed behind it and dont want to blow that sucker.

seems to e like a few guys are counting the 360 out a little early. it does not need a forged crank at that HP level, even I know that and I'm a Big block guy LMAO

Yeah it is good with a cast crank. Hell if you are careful with the tune you are safe with cast pistons. If you are on a budget which I am sure you are or you wouldn't ask these questions. Stick a mild cam in the 360 put a single plane intake on build your turbo system and have fun. After the turbo system bugs have been worked out you can build the motor. I always looked at it this way, if you make a bad move with the tune and it doesn't matter if you have forged pistons you will break something. I say break the junk motor rather than the expencive one.

I just ordered S400 with a/r 1.10 turbinehousing from dave for my stockish 360. In fact I will test the new turbo first in my 318. Waiting impatiently for the turbo to arrive...

Is the S400 nearly the same as the HT3B?? After i get my headers and exhaust finished i will have the HT3B on my 318 with a mild tune till i get my 400" smallblock built. :D

Not to be a downer to either one of you but the S400 on a 318 will spool late. I had a HT3b on my 383 it was terrible spool time. Pretty much 4000+ to get full boost in first gear, 3500 to see any positive pressure in third gear. The 400" engine will be a decent.

Go with a mild cam like a 270 .470 ground on 112 CL Turbo depnds on goals and money. A master power T-70 with a .96 housing is what I would run.

I've done builds with cast everything. Unless you are running soem sick horsepower, the only reason why cast vs. forged becomes important is in surviving detonation and heat from improper tuning.

Just go easy on the bitch.
