So I'm new to turbos and all I know how they work their function and what the parts do but I have a question

As like many I feel about sketchy about drilling my sump

Now bear in mind I'm installing this on an old clapped out tractor

Instead of using the oil from the engine is it possible to make a separate like oil reservoir for the turbo

But my idea was if this does indeed work is to use an old automatic gearbox oil intercoor and mod it to work with oil cooling for a turbo

But please reply if you know if this would work

    Ta

What kind of engine are you working on? Running a remote style oil system isn’t the greatest idea. If the electric oil pump fails it can take out the turbo. Not as reliable as tapping the oil feed from the engine

I'm running an inline 5 diesel tractor from 1992 it's just a shed, Ive thought about this and the pump failing quite a few times now, the plan is just to get it going again and in the possible future run it on the road but the set up I want to go with at the moment Probably won't be long term, probably just to see how it runs with a turbo and if I do go on to run it more and on roads tapping it will be the plan

You're only tapping into the sump for the return. If it upsets you that much find a place to return it that doesn't require going into the pan. Heck you could return it into the oil fill if you want. Might have to pump it up there, but it protects your delicate sensibilities as it comes to the drilling into the sump.

I'm with the two above posters in that the remote is a pain (I wouldn't do it unless it's the only way), but it will work if you're dead set on it. I have run them on setups with short run times, and never had a pump fail, you'll just want to monitor your pressure. You'll have to cool your oil on the pressure side, or possibly between the tank and pump, the drain side won't work using gravity.
