This "THING" I am building now is a pretty rowdy setup for a sorta street car, I just thought those cam specs were kinda big but I have been looking at other peoples cars and I have seen plenty that are this size, I just wated to know if anyone drives their car on the street with this size cam and if it was a pain or i f it was really not that bad!! Thanks for the help guys!!

Well, you asked for a cam for 1600 hp and that's what you got. It'll be fine driving it on the street a bit. That cam would be pretty radical in a 350 ci engine but in that 427, it'll be ok.

What made me think it was big is the engine they built in Car Craft for the F-bomb was 400ci and around 235 degrees of duration and that thing made just over 1500 with twin 74's at 27psi I think!! But oh well, I will just put this cam in there and I will deal with it, just wanted to check with some of you first!! :2thumbs:

    X2,

I doubt they did the cam wrong. The spec looks nice.
Not really a "daily driver cam".
I drive alot of nasty cammed chit on the road.
And it drives like it has a nasty cam, Oh well.

Its not horible but, it's no stock 2.3 either.

what did you expect when you had told them you wanted 1600hp LOL. If you do drive it on the street much just count on checking your valvespring pressure often. Do you have the needle cam bearing option installed in that aftermarket block??

No just the regular standard bearings, how often do you think they should be checked??

Depending on spring pressure.... At least once a year.
I have built them both ways. And they both last.

I recently did a 427 for a customer. The cam was 272 at .050 on the intake. It made peak torque at 6600 and peak power at 7800 and held that flat to 8200. That 427 pulled strong to 9300 and only dropped 90 hp from 8200 - 9300. The exhaust side of his cam was way different that yours. The shorter exhaust side on your cam is going to bring the RPM down some, but that isn't the way I would approach it. I think you need less intake cam at .050 and much more exhaust.

    On Motor 589 ft/lbs at 6600 RPM 783HP flat 7800-8200.

Chassis dyno: WELL over 1K on 6Psi; at 11Psi it would smoke the tires on the roller.

Idle was acceptable. Clear up? What do you mean by clear up?

With a cam that size I would expect it to be really choppy up to about 2500 while just crusing, "clear up" meaning when it stops the choppy side and goes into normal acceleration??

Like Robert1320 said, they should be checked once a year- I didn't and paid the price, I was running triple vascojet valvesprings on a .700 lift cam in a high rpm nitrous motor- after a 1 1/2 years it litterly squashed the cam bearings right out- the cam then seized broke the locating pin on the cam gear and you can guess what happened next- every valve (I mean everyone) made piston contact, bent them so bad I had to use a long center punch to nock them all out.

Also do NOT go over board on the valve spring pressure, not only can it be unnecessary it also robs horsepower.
