head porting @ home

    anyone had any experience doing some LIGHT porting and smoothing on there own aluminum heads with any success??
    how did you go about it??? i have read several articles on it but im wondering if its a good idea you know

    taking a grinder to a new head :-X

    Remember this... Most of the gain from porting is achieved right after the valve..

    Open the valve seat throat to about 85% of the valve size..Blend the seats into the head.. And contour the short turn into the port..

    This will give you a good bang for the buck.. Verses trying to do a full port job "IF" you are not a professional..

    Also... After your porting, get a good professional multi-angle valve job.. That's very important..

    Be patient and take your time. A cheep tool for finishing up after rough port finished,take cheep screwdriver cut off hande and tip,slot the tip so you can put a piece of scotchbrite in it and go to polishin'. :2thumbs:
