Form-a-gasket avaition. Comes in a little white bottle with a brush in the cap. It's black and gooey, never completely hardens and works great.

I've always used Hi-tack. The purple gooey stuff. Clean both surfaces and apply a film to each and pound the freze plug in and forget about it. Always worked great for me. Sounds like the same stuff as above.

I use a heavy vicosity sleeve retainer green. It creates a hard plastic seal. and will fill any small gaps sometimes up to .020" Basically its just thick threadlocker. And its not impossible to get loose either works just fine. I get mine from Valco
