So this has been about a 5 year project so far. I've been gathering parts and been busy with customer work to a point I just never had the opportunity to move forward with this build til now. Car has a 25.5 cage in it that I still need to get it certified, but I'm pretty confident it will pass. I've had this car since 1997. It was pretty beat up when I got it and I painted it, started running true street in FFW til I started running renegade with it. I retired it in 02 when I brought out my real street coupe in 03. It sat for a long time til a buddy expressed an interest in it and we traded. I got it back about 5 years ago and finished it up. It had a 353 renegade nitrous combo in it. I got it running and for some reason thought it would be a great idea to sell all the windsor stuff out of it and go coyote. Heres how the car looked when I got it back. The car's name is on this pic under the wing. 20130407_160014.jpg #ad

I dug out the shortblock from the box I stored it in and with the help of a few buddies, we got it up on the stand. I started digging around looking for all the parts and pieces I had for it. Ifound the billet oil pump gears and new truck oil pump. The truck pump gears are slightly thinner than the mustang ones. This engine was out of a truck with less than 1k miles on it, the guy was in an accident and ended up in a lake or river. So the engine had water in it. There was some staining on the cylinder walls and the oil pump relief spring had popped out. So that's why the pump is new. First, I pulled the T30 screws out of the pump housing and then I separated the 2 halves. I put the new billet gears in and put the marks facing up like the stock ones were. Then I torqued the bolts down with some loctite to around 7 ft lbs.

Lol, yeah. Funny story about that. I was talking to Greg Moser one day years ago, not sure how I ended up getting him on the phone, and I was telling him about my car and it was a stick and how fast I was going. He said wow, you are really lucky you haven't lost a wheel. He said I'm going to send you some 5/8" lugs, promise me you'll put them on your car. I've had them ever since. I will prob have to go 5 lug, but spending another close to 2k for wheels doesn't sound appealing.

So last night I found the billet crank sprocket from Boundry and took it out of the packaging. Its a very nice looking piece. Only complaint is the timing mark isn't engraved in it. So I took the old one and matched them up, marked the tooth, then engraved the front of the sprocket. I slid it onto the crank and then torqued my oilpump bolts down before I forgot. 20180723_205754.jpg #ad

Next, I had to figure out which set of head studs fit this block. Rough guide is the late 12, 13 and 14 MY blocks use an 11mm stud and the 11 blocks use a 12mm stud that is longer like the 4.6 ones and goes deeper into the block. Turns out this is a 13 MY block. So in went the 11mm studs. 20180723_213547.jpg #ad

Looking good. Is that the stock truck rotating assembly?

No, I just realized I didn't give the shortblock specs. It's the stock forged crank, Manley H beam rods, and Probe coyote 2618 pistons with a hellfire style ring package. Engine is .003" overbore. Can't take much out of the bores. .030" overbore will hit aluminum possibly. This is the other project my 4 cyl turbo kept delaying. I finally said screw it and started back on this one.

Cool, I almost did a coyote, but when I built my Windsor the coyotes were pretty new so I stuck with what I know. I really like these engines though and would love to turbo my 2011 f150 coyote. What are your turbo plans?

Last night I dug out the heads and started cleaning the surfaces on them and the block. Have to order head gaskets today. I did the first intake and exhaust ports to get the design down then my friend Dave did the rest, copying those. They turned out really nice. I did a 5 angle valvejob on them and assembled them with boss springs and new seals from modular head shop. 20180725_210039.jpg #ad

I found the boss exhaust cams stashed in a box. So those will go in as well. Eventually it will get custom turbo cams. 20180725_211314.jpg #ad

Head gaskets are at the dealer waiting for me to pick them up. I can't wait to bolt the heads on.

Head gaskets arrived, I took pics of the boxes for part number reference. Cleaned block and head surfaces really well and then put the gaskets on. I also got my new mustang timing cover as the trucks are different. I snapped a pic of that as well. Got to love mls gaskets for 20 bucks a piece!

So are you using the Holley dominator on this one? If so are you going to use there new TI-VCT module they have or going to lock out the cams?
Those gaskets look great with the head studs, looks like they should seal up really nice.

Nope starting out with an HP. And yep, locking out cams. That's coming this week. I should have everything I have bolted up on it by next weekend. I'm pretty excited.

Ok, so had a bit of time today, so I went ahead and torqued the headbolts down. 100 ft lbs of torque. I think it's starting to look like an engine finally. 20180729_115504.jpg #ad

After a breather, did I mention a hundred pounds of torque, 20 times? I rooted around and found the follower/lash adjuster combos. Coyotes have them in one piece. Makes it very easy to assemble. I went ahead and got them all installed and called it a day. I had worked since 8 am in the heat. Next up is camshafts and mmr deletes. 20180729_120118.jpg #ad
