Im going to be building a blow through 347 starting with a boss block and windsor sr heads. Im trying to decide between these two turbos. Im looking to get into the 10's with my 66 coupe which will be street driven. I can get a rebuilt 42 through my work for about the the same price as the t70 and they are actual garrett turbos. Like I said im looking to get into the 10's with about 700 horse and room to grow. Also, ill be runnin this through a richmond 4-speed. Ive searched and searched and there are just too many variables. I dont think another thread will hurt. Please school this noob. Ha, Nick

    Nick,

You should look at a S400 also.

For a street driven car stick to a GT42. An off the shelf S400 is laggy compared to a GT42, and you said its street driven, so obviously spool up is a concern. Also its alot nicer and reliable then a T70 from MP which I would imagine is what your were hinting to.

It will be a large frame gt42 with the t-6 inlet flange. Right now im looking to see if i can get one without a internal wastegate so i wont have to mess with keeping the internal one closed. Either that or look for a 1.15 a/r t-4 housing and swap them out.

Yes you can get them without internal gates. All the ones we keep on the shelf are external gated units. We only use internals for some compound diesel build we do.

700hp is more than enough to get in the 10's. There are plenty of guys getting in the 10's with MP t70's.

Remember, your comparing the price of a rebuilt turbo to a brand new one...Maybe its just me, but I like to buy this type of stuff new. That way if something goes wrong you have someone to complain too.

Well compared to a brand new turbo, the price id pay is waaaay cheaper because of being able to get it at cost...Im wanting to go 10's in street trim and want a big enough turbo to progress as needed. With the turbo id be getting there is some type of warranty on it. And besides, its all genuine garrett parts. We slap these on left and right where I work and since ive worked here I havnt seen one come back.

Sounds like you already know what you want. Get the 42.
