Any 77-81 Firebird / Trans Am Builds out there?

I was hoping to find some examples of turbo builds as the title says.

I'm contemplating gutting mine (1979 Trans Am) and starting over with another budget 4.8/Th400 combo. Really just dreaming for now but I was hoping to see what other people have done for turbo placement, intercoolers, exhaust, etc.

Any threads out there? I did some searching but didn't find much.

Car looks great first of all.

Second, do you still have a Pontiac engine in it, or is it already swapped? You said "another budget 4.8" so just clarifying.

Besides that, the routing and placement Id imaging you could look at Camaro builds for. Same chassis after all.

Thanks! Its a fun car for sure, just a little slow. Its a carbed 350 and a world class T5 trans. Longer story but when I started working on it it was a stripped roller. My other car is a 4.8 and more fun to drive than this one.

And lots of good Camaro examples to go off of for sure. I was just a little surprised given how common these cars are that I couldn't find more budget 4.8/5.3/6.0 turbo examples. A few high end turbo builds and a ton of LS swaps as expected.

I'll start a build thread once I have made some progress.

Not a LS swap, but mine is a 1977 Pontiac everything build by me. Chevy 305 stock bore cast flat pistons vht thermal coated, stock connecting rods with arp bolts, stock crankshaft, gap piston rings for boost, stock 416 Cylinder heads ported intake with stock 1.84,1.5 valves, z28 valve springs, 204 214 .420 .444 112 LS RV Camshaft with 1.6 rocker arms on intake side, stock 1.5 rocker arms on exhaust sidw. Stock exhaust manifold with Y route to a single 76mm turbocharger. I plug one side of turbine inlet flange...for fast spool up. 38mm wastegate with 8psi spring progressively boost creep too 12psi perfect for my needs.
Distributor conversion points with Edelbrock Coil 8.8mm wires, 1 step colder spark plugs 25 autolite. High Rises Dual Plane Intake Manifold Air-Gap.

    Th350 rebuild, stage 2 shift kit, 2500 rpm stall, 8.5 10 bolt posi, 3.42 gears. 225 70r 15 tires all four.

About too install a water injection system just for extra precaution anything over 7 psi of boost.

Nice, thanks for sharing! I bet it's a handful. Have you thought about adding an intercooler?

Seeing yours is making me reconsider playing with the 355 I have now but I think it's worth enough complete to sell and upgrade.

I always like water injection systems because there less cumbersome then intercoolers. But i am considering too install one on my 1983 Chevy Caprice.

Its seems you are dead set on a LS engine swap. I have consider doing a LS 4.8 swap before with the carbuerator conversion kit.
But i guess i just like playing with under dog engines like Chevy 4.3 Vortec, 305, and the forgotten chevy 307. There cheap as dirt too buy with tons of aftermarket options.
