4l80e any difference between drive and manually shifting

    on a 4l80e that is computer controlled, is there any difference(like increased pressure,etc) between manually shifting it or leaving it in drive and letting the computer shift it? thanks!

    I know enough to say yes, but I don't know all the details. The shifter position does play some part in the hydraulic circuitry inside the transmission. Tuning strategies within the computer may have different shift tables depending upon shifter location.

    Manual low gear in a 4L80E will apply the overrun clutch, the forward clutch, and the rear band.

    Placing the shifter in third will apply the overrun clutch and the forward clutch when the transmission is in automatic low gear.

    Placing the shifter in overdrive will apply the forward clutch when the transmission is in automatic low gear.

    Manual low gear provides for the most strength in low gear, and reduces strain on the forward clutch pack.

    Here's a pretty cool chart that shows what is applied in each range in a 4L80E:
