Hi I got a 79 Camaro with a 454 with a .547 lift cam and afr 265cc oval port aluminum heads with aluminum intake that should be making around 600hp and I’m wondering how much hp it would make with a s480 turbo with 80mm compressor wheel with 96mm exhaust side that’s a 1.32 a/r with a t6 housing, would this be a good fit or should I get a t4 housing with a 1.25 a/r?

1.32 minimum, may need to go bigger. If that engine is making 600 hp NA your going to be able to spool the turbo without any trouble. My 375hp 460 spooled a 1.32 t6 s480 to 11psi by 3500rpm. As far as power... 1k? May choke at the top, I'm not sure. It may be you cant get the revs out where that engine wants to make power with the 1.32 t6. What are your power goals? Might be in s500 or twin turbo territory.

What Ben said. That turbo works good on a 400-450 fwhp engine. Start getting up near 500 or more, and it becomes way less than ideal.

My power goals are 800hp-900hp+ and the engine should be making 600hp NA, so would the s480 be big enough or would I need a bigger turbo? Thanks

You'll want more turbo to make that hp given your na hp.

If you already have the s480 try it and see. If you don't have it in hand look at other options. Because your asking for low boost your out of the efficiency range of most any turbo. Matchbot says the s480 compressor is done at or before 6krpm, you will also need real big gates to keep the boost low enough. Going to the s500 series single it doesn't want to make less than 10psi. Twin t4 s363 or s366 look like a decent match for this, there may be something in the GT55 category that fits. Call Jose at Forced inductions and see what he likes, or talk to bullseye about a billet s488, again the t6 seems restrictive.

I like the S366's, but personally would go bigger than a S400 96/88 turbine. The 80mm is enough compressor for the 96/88 and anything more I believe you should be looking at something with a larger turbine to match.

Okay so y’all are saying I should find a bigger turbo? And I forgot to mention this is for drag racing use and probably won’t see above 6,000 rpms, do you think twin t4 s366 would make the kind of power I’m looking for on my build or should I find a big single turbo? Thanks

Would y’all think a 88mm turbo with a 117mm turbine with a t6 would get me to my hp goals? / would it be a good fit for my application and use?

The 88, or the twin 366's would be a much better fit. What 88 is that?

I think the 117mm is the compressor exducer, not the turbine. It looks like it's the standard 96/88 turbine which doesn't really help. If you're not against twins the 366's is the route i'd go.

Okay I’m not against going twins I just wanted to go one single for the budget, is there a big single you would recommend that would produce the same amount of power?

Nothing about turbocharging a 600hp big block is going to be cheap. I think in this particular case the twins will be cheaper. When you start talking about turbos larger than standard T6 things get really expensive, an s588 is $2225+, GT55 is 3k+ and there aren't a whole lot of knock-offs or used market for these. A genuine s366 can be had for around $700/each, knock offs are about half that, genuine s472 are $650. You will very likely need 2 wastegates and one big blow off valve either way so that's a wash, and 2 - 3" exhaust systems are going to cost less than a single 5 or 6", as well as being much easier to route. Twin s366 will make the power you want, and a lot more.

On a drag only car if you have the room for it a pair of s472 with the 83mm 1.10 turbine would probably work real well, gives you some RPM overhead, and lots of growth. Call Jose to verify,

Do y’all know where I can find a pair of s366 turbos for a good price? I’m trying to spend no more than $1,000 on the turbos alone, and what kind of power would you think this would be making with twin s366?

You can usually find the China copies for 300-400 each from vs or ebay, or you can find genuine Borg Warners on ebay for 575-600 each.

Hey I was wondering if this is the right size s366 (turbine wise) to do twins with or if I need the .91 A/R ones?
