I haven't had much time to work on the Skylark the past few weeks, and this weekend I decided to work on the sled as I thought it would only be a few day project..... Well, 3 days in, it's snowballed like every other project I start... lol. I planned to just swap the skis, skid, and track, and be ready to race. It has an aftermarket exh, but it's built very stupid imo so I was going to fix it. After some effort I got the down pipe off, but managed to break a bolt off in the process, and even with heat, I wasn't able to get it out without removing the turbo completely. So now, what kind of turbo guy would I be if I didn't see a broken bolt as a perfect excuse to upgrade the turbo..... I've had this Gt3071r laying around for awhile, and although a little more than I need currently, it will be much better than the totally maxed tiny stock IHI turbo, and give me room to grow if I upgrade pistons, and rods later on, and take it beyond 350 hp IMG_20180215_120842127_HDR.jpg #ad

Here's the $400 down pipe.... they make it in both 2.5" (this one), and 3" but the first 3-4" is less than 2" od. They could have easily ovaled the beginning of the pipe, and lost the small section. I built this jig, and the head flange for the new manifold, it doesn't look like much, but should work nice for building the manifold off the sled. 20180813_170006.jpg #ad

Who's downpipe is that? I have a D&D on my sled and it's 3" all the way out.

Evolution. Some build them like this, and some do it the right way. I bought this sled used with all the aftermarket parts already installed. If I were to replace it, it would be either a D&D, or Turbo Dynamics.

Well, after buying the Skylark, and fighting some issues with the 12 1100 turbo, I decided to put the 13 back together and sell it. I will build another sled, and I have enough parts to build a 670 twin 2 stroke with the GT3071R. It'll be much cheaper, lighter, and easier on clutches/belts. Better all around.
