My buddies truck cut off when it gets to 2500 rpm.It drops back down to 1000 but keeps running.You can hear something that sounds like it blows off boost.Also as soon as it cuts off black smokes blows out the exhaust.

Anybody have any ideas or is this a common problem.

Only thing it has is a bully dog tuner but he runs it on the factory tune.

 

sounds like a timming issue being sent into limp mode, my only thing with that is you would get a code. i dont think its a fuel rail because its blowing smoke, but that its just injecting post combustion. check crank signal make sure its not loose and wires where the bd tied in make sure they were fused and sealed and not loose.

run a obd on it see if it has a code, some of them wont throw the cel.

 

Im waiting to hear back about the codes.Suppose to check today for me.

Just an update..... turned out to be a collapsed air filter.
