    1993 Mustang LX Hatchback - S380 - 3.8 V6

As the title says I just bought a 1993 LX hatch last week, and I am going to install a 10 pt cage in the car, and build the suspension so that I can legally run the car (1/4 mile) without being kicked off. The engine that I am building for it is using a 01 and newer mustang 3.8 block, with a Thunderbird SC crankshaft (forged steel) made into a custom stroker crank, 5.970 H-beam rods, and JE .020 over forged 2618 pistons, 96 and newer split port cylinder heads, custom made 3/4" main girdle/ windage tray and oil pan, and all hardware is being stepped up to at least 1/2" and using ARP.

I currently have the turbo on my 1995 Thunderbird SC and have put down over 700 rwhp @ 22 psi with race gas also running a built 3.8 but with 5.956 rods and 4032 forged pistons. The Thunderbird is my daily driver and is a monster on the street but I have had no luck trying to sell the car the way it sits so I am going to transplant everything into a lighter and EASIER car so I can get some REAL track times, and hope to be able to sell the mustang without loosing my butt! The current setup in the thunderbird traps 136-138 mph @ 24 psi and when running C16, but have not run the car since building the new trans with the transbrake

For inquiring minds the turbo is a Borg Warner S380R with a .90 and a 1.10 housing ( I have 2 that I use) When I bought the turbo it was a 75mm with the standard comp housing but have since swapped the wheel for the larger 80mm billet wheel and larger race cover so I expect the turbo to be good for 1,200 hp and I only want to see 900 rwhp.

    Feel free to ask questions!

Pictures below are of my turbo thunderbird super coupe and of the mustang I just got

I got the mock up motor in the car and was pleasantly suprised that SN-95 V6 motor mounts allow this engine to drop right in with zero modification. The radiator support and fender aprons were damaged, so I am going to just replace it all. I may go with the smooth aprons, idk yet!

Well the setup I have in my SC is no longer using the M90 supercharger. I gave that up about a year ago due to my disappointment with the magnum powers blower and the hp numbers I was seeing. Here is a photo of the setup in the thunderbird as of now, this photo was taken a couple of weeks ago at the silver springs ford show here in FL.

Here is what it looked like when I had the Magnum Powers MPX supercharger

Here is a video I got from a couple of days ago doing a 0-130 mph pull on 17-18 psi and pump gas, so the timing is not very aggressive. I did shift very early on the 1-2 shift so that 2nd gear would not spin. Enjoy :)

On my youtube channel I have other videos of driving on the street at only 13 psi and it shows how easily it blasts the tires off in 2nd gear if I just let it rev out in first

Can't wait to see how this turn's out. I had a '89 SC. Fun car, very torquey and easy to drive. Suck's part's where impossible to find.

Oh, yeah! The block that is in my turbo thunderbird is the original SC block, but I will be going to the 01-04 mustang block with the new motor for the mustang. I am not the only one pushing these motors like this and far from being the first to do it. Kevin Leitem from sccoa went and test the rumor that the 01-04 mustang block had a heavier and stronger block than even the SC block and it was confirmed.

2000 and older 3.8 block bare 82 lbs
    SC block bare 113 lbs
01-04 mustang block bare 120 lbs

Dang that make me want to keep the 350k mile v6 i have as an extra car. Never had any problems with it until now, shifts are getting hard. I was going to just give it away when it stopped working, its in pretty good shape for the miles now i wanna make it a sleeper but not to the extent as yours. Maybe just SC crank, forged pistons, DIY port and polish heads. Think it will take 400hp and be happy?

A stock SC short block will handle that power goal without breaking a sweat if it were turbocharged, There are even a couple of stock N/A bottom ends that are pushing 400rwhp and more:calm:.... Although I personally couldnt trust doing that with one of my own engines. I have A LOT of SC parts so I never even consider using a base model 3.8 as a starting point.

Thats awesome, i like odd ball fast cars, even though you can tell by my sig that all my cars are typical fast cars. I love the sleeper idea, ive just never been commited to building a sleeper.

Well yesterday I went and picked up the SN-95 spindles with all of the extras. The stock SN-95 brakes probably wont go on my 93 due to the fact that I already have PBR twin piston calipers on my Thunderbird. I also picked up a complete OBD-II wiring harness from a 1998 3.8/automatic mustang.

It took me about 2 hours, but I stripped the harness of what wasn't needed and then went through and labeled all of the wires. Now it is ready to go in to the car :)

I also have things moving along with the engine block and the preparations for it to handle the target (1,000) horsepower I expect to run. So here are a couple of photos showing the main and head bolt holes after drilling and tapping to 9/16-12. I was a little nervous about going that big but the block has MORE than enough material around the bolt bosses to support the larger hardware. the factory hardware size is M12-1.5 so....yeah! I think it will be enough for my goals. In the picture of the block deck surface, the top right hole was not tapped yet to show the bore diameter vs the new threads.

This weekend I should be getting the tubular rear control arms and the 31 spline axles for the 8.8 that I am building to replace the 7.5
