Ok, been working on the car for the last 3 years, and I've been set on the turbo part for about the last 4 months. I'm pretty close to having it finished, so I figure I might as well get this started now.

I stripped the car down a few months after I purchased it. Pulled the motor/trans and bought an LT1 for it. Built the LT1 and then got offered a good amount for the LT1 and to install it in a '96 Camaro. So there went the LT1. The car sat in the corner for about another year, completely untouched. That's when I found the turbo scene.

Pulled the 305/200-4r back out of the corner, and dusted off the Monte.

What I have done so far.

    The Car:
    1986 Monte Carlo SS
Purchased 1/2009 and shipped in from Wichita, KS
    White
Car was all original, down to the 305, 200-4r, and open 7.5" rear-end
    Grey Interior
    Hard top

    Engine
    305ci standard bore
    stock pistons
    stock rods
    stock crank
    stock heads
Summit 1103 Cam and Lifter kit (214/[email protected], .442/.465, 112LSA)
    Edelbrock Torker Intake
Stock HEI Ignition, with Vacuum Advance modified to Boost Retard

    Fuel System
    Walbro gsl392 Inline 255LPH pump
    Mallory 4309 Regulator
New -6 Push-Lock from tank to Reg
-8 Push-Lock Return, with a -8an bulkhead in the top of the tank
    Edelbrock 1405 Carb
    with ThermoQuad Nitrophyl Floats,
    Bowl Vent Extensions

    Forced Induction Pieces
    Single Borg Warner s200 series
    55mm/81mm Compressor Wheel
    70mm Turbine Wheel
    T3 Divided Housing
    CSU Carb Hat
Home-made 2" Hotside, Merging to 2.5" at turbo
Flipped Exhaust Manifolds off a 1978 Nova
    3" Intake Piping
    eBay Intercooler
    60mm eBay Wastegate

    Misc
    Aluminum Radiator
    Electric cooling fan
    Factory 200-4r transmission
    Factory Stall
    Trunk Mounted Optima Red Top
    Innovate MTX-L Wideband Kit

I'm planning on running 10-15psi, e85. Hoping for somewhere near 400hp at the crank. Pics and updates to come. Most people are amazed at the budget I have stuck too on this build. I have next to nothing in this entire car. I'm shooting to have the car on boost by March 17th (Opening day for Gateway)

I'd think a little smallish on the turbo IMO, but will be curious to see how the cam does for you. Should be a torquey little beast, leaving the stock converter in may not be the worse thing with a head unit that size really depending on your turbine and all.

Yea, the turbo is very small. According to the compressor map, I wont be able to run it past 5000rpm or so. But as you know, a 305 with that cam and factory heads doesn't really like to go much past that anyways.

Gotta love the down and dirty builds!

You may be able to trade or sell that turbo in favor of an hx40. The he351's can be picked up cheaper than an HX40 usually if you have the room. (same compressor specs) You could then just adjust your guide vanes for your engine. They also make .70AR t3 hotsides for the hx40's for about $200. Good luck!

Sorry I havent updated this in forever. I got the build all completed. Wasnt happy with it. Put a CXRacing front mount on it. Still just didnt make the power I wanted, and couldnt keep the IAT's down to a reasonable number. The compressor was just too small. Never got any true numbers out of it because Gateway Motorsports Park sucks. The new management is as bad as the old. So this week I stripped it all down and put longtubes and a mech fuel pump back on the car and its going up for sale next week. I'm officially retired from drag racing.

I've started up a team to compete in the 24 Hours of LeMons series, and am building a road course car. I gotta try something new, because the whole drag racing scene is just getting boring to me. My road course debut is set for October 2013 up at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL.

I'm keeping the turbo, wastegate, wideband, piping, intercooler, fuel system, etc, cuz down the road I know I will want to hear that amazing sound once again. I'll still be around, because I still have the boost bug. Its gone nowhere. And thanks to everyone on here that helped me work the bugs out of this mess of a project. lol

Here are the most recent pics I had before i tore it all back apart. With and without Intercooler... Oh yea, and I painted the car about 2 months ago. My first ever DIY paintjob with Rustoleum. Turned out pretty alright for the little amount of prepwork I did...

That turbo is the same as in the first post. Its a Borg Warner s2 series with a 55mm compressor wheel and T3 exhaust housing.

That thing has to be a torque monster, we use that same size turbo on Hayabusa builds, my bike is more street friendly so I am running a S252. When you get board pick up a Holset like he others are talking about, we have a HX 40 on a 306 Mustang and are making 550 rwhp at 11 psi, bought the turbo and the headers for $300 from a fellow TF member.

Haha. It was E85 at first. When I was having all those problems. Then I switched to 93 and everything got sooo much easier.
