It’s been 15 years since this turbocharged vision began...it all started with a Car Craft magazine article on using old long tube headers to make a home brewed turbo kit on the cheap and a copy Of the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell.
Here I am 41 years old and life finally gave me a budget to get my car on the road.. 20k and it’s going fast!
My plan is to build a car that is most important reliable and safe to drive miles on the highway and not run into many cars that are quicker on the street.....:)
Current status is all prefab and mock up of engine bay and associated components is completed ✔️ and now I’m designing drivetrain, suspension and chassis
And last but not least my friend Lance Clontz at California Street Machine is building my motor. His engine just swept Mega Cash Days on Street Outlaws so it’s gonna be pretty serious :)
Engine the pics and give me your feedback and any and all questions are welcome.
    Thanks Turbo Forums

Flipped my old long tube headers chopped the primary tubes up in ever straight section and made them point forward.
2.5” crossover to JGS wastegate and a T6 Flange
Only shitty part of design so far was I can’t run my stock swaybar.

Good to see the ford in ford project. So sick of everyone acting like an ls swap is an original idea.
I would rethink the no intercooler decision personally, especially with such a short discharge tube. I've read a lot of threads on here and most that choose no intercooler regret it. The carb won't cool the inlet temps that much.
    Good luck,love it so far.

You wont see me putting Chevy motor in my Ford
Thanks for the knowledge on the charge temps.
Do u know of a target range I should look for on intake temps?

Mine with an intercooler usually on a hot day gets up around 110 or so peak. My buddy who did a no intercooler setup sees 170+. Guess that will depend on the efficiency of your compressor and amount of boost. The compressor wheel is connected to the turbine wheel and heat transfers to cold. There are those on here that will disagree with me, but I hate all the hassles you have to go thru to avoid an intercooler and it's such a simple addition. Jmho. Nice build for sure

Carbs do a decent job of pulling heat, especially with ethanol, but the S465 isn't going to help matters any.

The work you did converting those long tubes is amazing. Nice work!

Could look into water meth injection pre turbo to cool the compressor housing and charge down also.

Just more stuff to wrong, all just to avoid an intercooler. It's like nitrous, great until it runs empty. Jmho

I get what you’re saying, and I feel if you’re constantly pushing that line then maybe having a race gas or e85 tune is better. There’s a few vehicles where fitment just isn’t an option and don’t want to relocate the radiator. I can see both sides of it. I would think a A2W setup could be fit without taking up the least amount of space?

    Thanks,
Was your buddy’s setup EFI ? And how did it run with 170 Air temps ? Pump gas?

I may run E85 if necessary.
Your on point that the 65mm wheel may be in an inefficient range intern raising charge temps.

The story on the Turbo choice is when I called Turbo Dave’s to buy he was out of S475’s and offered the S465 on paper it will efficiently support air for over 700HP.
Back then I was on a slim budget and was gonna run my stock 289 Block And be max 750hp.
Now with a bigger budget I will run a Dart block and the S465 as an experiment .
I think I can bolt in up to an S480 with same flanges???...anybody know?

WOW Brian your the first person to notice my bad ass Dad custom Graphics, that paint job took 15 years and 3 kids. Even some friends have drawn on it.

I never thought I’d be able to afford to paint....
But I’ve always been stoked to drive it at least for a while with my home built paint scheme.

    thanks dude

Thanks so much. That means a lot to me.
I didn’t even know how to weld let alone build headers when I started.
All I did was just get in there and do it and I’m very proud of how they turned out.
I envisioned roughly where I wanted the collector and then just got the first tube in there to hold it then 3 more. Using painters tape for mock up. A chop saw and a floor sander in a vise for final joint fit.
