Hey everyone, i don't post much on here but my buddy 4ipride says you guys are the experts on turbos so heres my question.

Right now i have a 1998 Cobra, i blew the motor a year ago and had it built with Manley H-Beam rods and JE pistons, stock block bored over and normal bolt ons, the motor was built for boost and i've been using a Vortech V-1 S-Trim blower (before the motor blew and now) at about 14psi making in the mid 400s at the tires.

I want Turbo. I'm getting tired of the Vortech, my buddy 4ipride got me turned on to turbos with his 93 LX twin turbo (incon kit).

I'm trying to decide between the HP Performance twin kit (either 57mm or 67mm) and the Pro Turbo Kits single 76mm kit. I will be buying the full kit with the fuel system, suspension parts, etc. i already have an MSD DIS-4, 42lb injectors, stock H/C/I, Superior 31 spline axle, and soon a Tremec 3650.

sorry for the length, trying to paint a full picture for you guys.

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Chuk

HP has got my vote. Jimmy and Nate, and Tom are a great bunch of guys. I don't know what the wait time is right now but I got my kit in 7 weeks. I think the main difference between the kits besides the number of turbos of course, is that the HP kit is blow through and the PTK is draw through.

I was leaning towards the HP kit myself. I was in love with their setups after watching the 'Street Fighting' video of a 93 cobra on the street, simply amazing :)

i havent been having much luck getting a hold of them. i called for about 3 days straight before i got someone on the phone, and i said my kit was missing pieces. they said they would send them right out. that was early january. and it was just a clamp and a silicone coupler. i also had a few install questions and it took another week or so to get an answer. dont know what the deal was. the quality of my kit is so so. my header flange had alot of weld spatter that i had to grind down and some of the welds arent the greatest.

the fitment on the other hand is definately excellent and i had almost no trouble installing everything after finding out what to do.

    good luck with your decision.

TTI or TPS. I would take the HP kit over the PTK, you get more for your money. Not to happy with were they located the WG though

I had the same problems with HP... it's like when they got the kit together they didn't double and triple check to make sure all the pieces are in there. Then when you call them you spend days trying to get a hold of them, there terrible with returning phone calls. The welds on my kit weren't so great either.

i think i might just buy a coupler from hightempsilicone. what is the turbo to ic pipe coupler, 2.5-3? also i didnt get the band clamp for the corssover. also, is there supposed to be one on the downpipe when it goes from the pipe right off the turbo to the next one?

If you want MORE performance and want to spend less money, have your car taken to HPP Racing in Denton TX.

I made 730 to the tires on a T76 and now I'm looking for near 1000 on race gas and 650 on pump with twin GT35R's

All his kits are custom set ups designed around you needs and your going to spend thousands less for a whole system over HP or anyone else. Not to mention they are actually going to fit.

I've had work done all over, from Turbo RX, Powertrain and JMS. I'll never take my car anywhere else.

    FYI.

Seems typical, my buddy complained about his welds on his HP kit well over a year ago, nice to see things probably have not changed. I'd thought after so much time the welders experience level would have grown as would their quality. Of course that simply assumes they always have the same welders working there and not constantly having guys leave.

I'd listen to No Quarter, he is a picky SOB and has the experience with a lot of places to be rather critical.

PTK all the way. I've delt w/HP not to happy w/there customer service. Unless you spend alot of money w/them they won't give you the time of day. Plus they have never returned any of my phone calls. Made promises & never kept them. If I were you I'd buy one John Urist's kits Hellion kits. I've seen John's work it is definitely worth the money.

I also am having problems with HP. I ordered my kit in November and was told several times that they were waiting for parts for the turbo. Finally, I got a hold of them and upgraded to a T76 GTS so now they are waiting for those turbos to get in stock which I understand are about two weeks away.
Got a hold of them this morning as always they are very professional and easy to work with, if and when you can get a hold of them.

I would go with TPS or TTI. Have you even checked out their kits? but I may have to go with HPP I did not know they did turbo fabrication up there.

TTI does not make a kit for the 98 Cobra, they certainly would probably make one if you provided them the car though.

i dont want to have anything custom done, i'd rather buy the kit and install it myself with a little help.

Again thanks for all of your input, im seeing that with both companies it can be a long time for the kit to be fabricated etc but im willing to wait, what about twin 67s vs single 76? people have been telling me that single 76mm is the way to go because it flows more and can make more efficient power, i'm just trying to get a good idea of what im buying.

    Thanks

Both kits will make plenty of power so really looking at dyno graphs seems pointless. I think quality would be my number one concern right next to availability.

i have a HP kit to, and i'm not happy with the welds. the one thing i was really pissed about was when my pipping came in. the long exhaust pipe with the O2 bungs in it. the ends were bent in. i'm not saying total crushed but bent enough that it wouldn't seal. so when i called HP the guy on the phone (not Tom) told me to put a rag on it and hit it with a hammer. like thats what i want to do to a turbo kit that i just dumped $4700 on. hit it with a fuckin hammer. that really pissed me off.
if i had to do it again i would not buy the HP kit. i really doubt that after i install the kit my opinion would change. i install the kit the first week of april.

oh yeah and the HP kit is NOT A BOLT ON KIT!!!!! guys like chicken dreamer, turbomut and other guy on the boards(sorry don't rememeber names at the moment) have helped me with install questions. and this is far from a bolt on.

Very few people do remember or at least ever voice that they do. As far as bolt on, their Fox body kit for sure is a FAR cry from bolt-on IMHO. Especially if compared with things like the PTK kits for 302 based motors.
