Been awhile since I’ve tried some “clean” wiring. Managed to get the water pump and the fan all wrapped up. Tried to keep it tucked away from moving parts as much as possible. Might need another zip tie or two eventually. Ran a new ground for the fan, but the other 3 wires were existing so ran the sheathing as far as I could back to the firewall. Should be plenty protected as it is. D4C37F57-1B8C-4334-8616-74A0A3425E2F.jpeg #ad

Had a decent day today! Was able to get a few hours in the garage and finished up terminating the starter and also got my crank position sensor plugged in. Also got my alternator charging and excite wire in a loom and back into the cab. Grounded both ignition pigtails to the heads and also got the head/motor grounded to my negative wire going back to the battery. It’s about down to just inside the cab makeup for wiring now.

I got a used battery from work that’s on its way out, so I’ve been nursing it with a trickle charger and using that as my 12v source as I continue my wiring. Since the starter power cable is now on the starter and not laying against my frame I was able to turn power on to the truck for the first time in 7 years! Turned the lights on, water pump, fuel pump, fan, accessories (gauges). Even got to bump the starter for the first time!! I’m at the point where it gets fun from here on out. 288128B0-2580-4AE7-BC1B-71C5B846FF22.jpeg #ad

I like how it’s not so bright at night, easy to see during the day with the with face, but then blacks out at night and all you have is the numbers displayed.

We got a carb in the house! Borrowing a blow through from a buddy for startup and any initial driving. Wasn’t planning on running a spacer but for the fuel log and pressure transducer to clear the manifold a 1” spacer I had laying around looks like the ticket. Also it lets the log be in the lowest position which I think looks better.

Debating swapping end fittings and having the regulator on the firewall and feed the fuel log from the firewall instead of the fuel coming up the front like the old setup. Keep as much to the back as I can. Terminator harness has a fuel pressure wire off the front by the alternator, so I’ll try and 90 or 45 off the fuel log and connect that wire across the front of the manifold. 5687B4E5-F2F5-4BC4-98A7-55FE1DAB6E7A.jpeg #ad

Carb hat showed up and got an early package of 4” piping yesterday. Measured a bunch and made my first cut. Seems like it fits decently. It’s a 25° angle out of the turbo to line up straight with my core support. Was able to order a 30° bend and take a 5° cut out of a straight section to offset it and it came out nicely. This week my 4” boot and t bolt clamps show up so I can connect the 45° pipe to my carb hat. Once that is done I can make a pie cut 90° to complete the setup. They were all sold out of 90’s when I order so I’ll just try my best at making one.

Also got my fittings/line/Mac valves and installed those as well. Tuning above the exhaust should be good but I’ll sleeve it with some high temp shielding just to be safe in that area. 1EA6015E-FA72-41D4-8D93-7AA2D6825A53.jpeg #ad

That’s the plan! Running is the goal, driving is a bonus. I’m shooting for April to get it fired up for the first time.

Well I planned on tack welding this on the bench, and tried a little weld and it looked ok, so I ended up just welding the whole thing! First complete weld ever on aluminum piping. Usually I’ve only done structural stuff like square tubing and whatnot. Goal is to bring the welder home this weekend and see if I can get closer on connecting these sections. 6E1E76EC-8FE6-49B5-8DC8-F4A00F600F10.jpeg #ad

Decided I need to get the charge pipe built this weekend, so set about baking some pies! Fitment is good enough, not as tight as I’d like it on the bottom but it will do. Came out looking alright I think. I was going to go straight over and 90 up to the carb but thought this angle gave me more space and looked like I tried harder haha. 90964926-80FD-4430-9978-F67DEFDDF60A.jpeg #ad

Got her all wrapped up! Lots of stainless welding experience for work, only done aluminum a hand full of times before, never done pipe though. It was a learning curve and I practiced on some pieces before I committed. I think it came out decently for being a rookie. Brushed the welds with a wire brush the gave it a quick hand polish a rag, brightened it up pretty good! Now where to mount the BOV is the question… 41D65BB3-58F6-4245-8E02-C1182CF52023.jpeg #ad

Quick welded the BOV flange on this morning. Had to redo the flange since it was contoured for a 2.5” pipe and I have 4”. Also ran some wires for my auto meter oil temp and pressure gauges and got them mounted in a way they hopefully don’t kiss the converter haha. DAB08FC5-1652-433B-969D-9EB238644B50.jpeg #ad

Got around to routing some fuel lines and swapping some fittings around. I had a -10an feed and used the return built into the pump on the old setup. Magnafuel recommended a -8an feed and -10an return off the new regulator so ended up reusing the old -10an line for the return. Mounted the regulator right off the fuel log on the back side and fed the fuel lines right up the firewall. C5FE625D-E30A-44AF-8ED1-605B50FE2E46.jpeg #ad

Then as I was running the feed line back to the pump to see where I had to cut it…I noticed I didn’t have to but rather extend it…great, I thought 10’ was going to get me there. I have some short sections of made up lines from the old setup, so I’ll order a hose end and use one of those short lines as a jumper to fill the gap.
