Picking up a turbo and headers tomorrow, so looking for some advice on street use. 1996 single cab short bed f150 (that part isn’t important) Efi mpfi 408w, 10.1:1, Super victor intake, 4150 flange, 340lph pump, 42# injectors, 90mm single tb, soon to be term x ecu. Gonna be a mean daily driver. so far I know I need some 80# or so ev1 injectors, and possibly an Intercooler/water meth kit, but that’s where I’m lost. Fabbing an Intercooler into a truck where there are no kits designed for it sounds like a huge pain to me. running a water meth kit, however, seems affordable and effective.

A couple of my first questions, I’m sure I’ll have more later:

Will running a water/meth kit alone be enough cooling for regular daily driving, or should I really just suck it up with an Intercooler?

do I need a water/meth kit anyway due to my compression, or am I in the clear on pump gas?

what kind of psi can I handle on stock block with forged internals and forged I beams ?

will my 230/236 112lsa .609/.590 lift cam be somewhat adequate, at least for now?

Also need to change head gaskets from 1011-1 to 9333pt1. Any thoughts on the 9333pt1 for boost?

    thanks.

Well, turns out the guy was doing a little false advertising and he just had a Chinese g45 copy, so no turbo. I’m still looking for one for the right price, but for now I’m NA. E85 is in the picture, but the nearest station isn’t very close so it’s the last option. Truck will be mostly a daily driver and pavement princess, might pull a small trailer once a month, if that. Mostly just an impressive daily. Truck weighs 4,300 or so, 4.10 gears and 4x4. 6” lift and 35’s. I still wouldn’t mind some answers, in case I do end up going turbo. Thanks.

You want an intercooler, especially with your compression ratio. Water meth is an okay alternative, but not nearly as reliable, and automatic as an intercooler. Stock Windsor blocks are tough. Avoid boost at low rpm, and block will be fine. The 9333's are a good gasket to run, they'll typivally save things if it goes wrong.

All of that is what I’ve gathered from reading various threads and such. Only disadvantage to Intercooling for me is having to plumb charge pipe but I can manage. Appreciate it guys.

Plenty of room on the front for an intercooler. I'll see if I can find pics of the one I did.

I agree, I was just checking it out yesterday and I can fit a honking one in there below the condenser. Just piping.

I run this style below. A lot of lightning guys run dual in on side (driver side inlet/outlet) and run them lower and use the diesel bumper inserts. Basically the same nose as the F350 powerstroke and they come factory with intercooler and have aftermarket options if you don't want to fab up something custom. Plenty of room for something decent up there.

Plenty of room under the hood for whatever size turbo you want on these trucks. I run a 4" down pipe with ease back down too.
