Ok I need an low cost stand alone ems Megasquirt 3 ???

This is a low $$$ build as its will be flipped its an 42 gmc short bed on and S10 chassis. I have 2008 55k 4200 I-6 adapted to an bop turbo 400. 4200 is totally stock except for mid reground cams and stronger valve springs. I am in the prosses of splitting the stock exhaust manifold into 3 to 1 with 2 X 1.5 sch10 in an divided T4. Just ordered an S366 clone and will be top mounted up front. Now this where i need your Help on choosing an budget EMS. Oh it will run on pump E85 and the 4100 and the exhaust cam has vvt and would like it to work but can be locked. Oh shooting for 600esh rwhp @ 7k and no more than 20psi. Here a few pics of the engine & trans

The 08, and 09 have a boost friendly ecm that can be tuned with hp tuners, or a microsquirt works well too without vvt. With the vvt being on the exhaust only, most will say it's mostly for emissions, so degree it at a lsa that fits your turbo choice, and run it is what I've done. You can make your hp goal, but they don't love rpm in stock form. 7k may be pushing it.

Either will work fine. The dowl pins are in the same location on all three. I have a Chevy pattern behind mine. The bell needs to be notched to clear the starter, or there is an adapter to run a mini starter. I've also seen where you can use the bell from the 4l60 and adapt it to a th350/400

Thanks i will lock the exhaust cam around 10 deg to start.

I see there is an sfi ?damper avail that makes them safe to turn to 7k willing to find out as these engines are dirt cheap

Great info, So would i be better to get an stock 08 / 09 factory ecm with hp tuner or go with an microsquirt 2 or 3 ?. I am not at all computer smart so as simple as possible has $$ to me. Wiring is zero issue

If you don't already have the ecm i'd go with the Microsquirt... https://www.efisource.com/wp/shop/microsquirt-ls-ecu-with-8ft-harness/ Are you on Facebook? There's a good 4200 group there, and it's where I found the starter adapter, and the info on the Microsquirt. With the super long stroke, and not so beefy rods i'd be cautious with rpm, but that's just me. They do 6500 rpm without too many issues though.

I suggest you look up the Nelsons Atlas 4200 Amerabarra. They have a youtube. Lots of info. They know what ecu's work.
I know they say the stock ecu is very limiting. They've done megasquirt and other ecu's.

Nivlac57 on YouTube. Calvin is where I've gotten a lot of my info. He's pretty active in the fb group. The 08-09 has basically a ls ecm making it much better than the earlier models

A megasquirt 3 isn't that much more money than a microsquirt and it is miles ahead in terms of features. Flex fuel table blending is one huge reason to go MS3 on your build.

You can do a flex fuel input on the microsquirt right? I feel the pain of limited inputs and outputs on the Micro but the MS3 is more than double the cost.

I've been wanting to spend some time on a CAN bus based arduino expansion to bridge the gap in my case.

Yes you can connect a flex sensor to a micro squirt but what you can do with that is incredibly limited.

A proper flex fuel implementation will have separate fuel and ignition tables for e85 and straight gasoline. You would then setup a curve to blend between those tables depending on the ethanol percentage. Megasquirt 3 does this.

That is interesting, I didn't realize the capability was that different.

Ok i am going to try my hand at the DIY megasquirt 3x to save a few $$

Got the 5cly oil pans cut and mocked bolted on the engine to test fit it to the s10 chassis crossmember an sumps depth.

Also going to try to install the factory starter without cutting into the bop 400 bell housing as it look like it MIGHT work

A good day today, I got the stock starter to fit without having to cut the bop 400 bellhousing but not to sure how long the starter will last sorry i did not take pics of the starter mods but i cut most of the starters nose top off leaving 2 ribs about 3/4" wide supporting the nose bushing. If its to weak i have another idea to do it like an early VW and put the starters nose / bushing in the bellhousing and cutting the stock nose support off.

Test fitted the engine to the s10 chassis and was please with how the oil pan fits the crossmember and sump depth was right on so now its time to start tigging it all together. Since this truck will lay frame i put the chassis on the ground and put an 7/16" thick plywood spacer under the sump and on ground so the pans sump will be above the chassis bottom. Oh the motor plate / adapter fitted fairly well as i just guested at the chassis rails mounting area
