Good catch! Passenger side head gasket is upside down.

I checked with the machine shop today and they confirmed the gaskets are on correctly. They are Cometics so they don't look the same as say Fel-Pros.

As for paying the bill, my uncle used to say the best part of the job was collecting the money as he gave the customer their keys.

If they left them the way they were in the pic, the passenger side is upside down. Color has nothing to do with it. Look at driver's side and see where the large coolant openings are in the rear of the gasket, then look at the passenger side and see the large openings are in the front of the gasket, that's backwards. It's not too late, they can yank the head and reinstall.
If you fire it as is, symptom will be rapid overheating and blowing out of radiator cap as steam pressure builds because of lack of coolant movement on that side. Worst case is piston damage.

Yea man that thing will blow up if you don’t fix it now. Sliver 82 gt did you show him the pic that you have? If so they don’t know anything about ford motors.

I finally got time to break in and dyno the 327. It turned out to be a comedy of errors on a Friday. We started the break in and as soon as the engine got to operating temp we noticed a puddle of water on the ground under the right side of the engine. It turned out to be 2 pin holes in the middle of the right rear freeze plug. Since 1 was spraying on the header we decided to shutdown and replace the freeze plug. That done we finished seating the rings n/a, cut the filter, changed the oil and started to put on the turbo kit. Once it was on I put a 6# spring the wastegate and started the engine. That was when my 11 yr old fuel pump that had never caused a minutes trouble decided to puke out the seal. This left us in a bind. The shop doesn't dyno many forced induction engines so the dyno has 2 high volume, low pressure fuel pumps. My house was an hour away and it would take at least an hour to pull the pump on the car and come back. We decided to try 5# with his pumps. The engine wasn't happy with such a light spring and it didn't really start making power until 3-4#. It was worse than the problems I had been having before with the engine wanting to sit at 0 boost/vacuum rather than go into boost. The shop owner called a couple of his friends at other shops and they all agreed the heads and turbo kit 2" primaries were too big before at 349" and the problem is worse now it is a 327". By this time it was 5pm and we decided to pull the engine off the dyno. They would have given me more time on Monday but I had to be at work.

Since the engine has twisted wedge specific pistons that won't clear an inline head I was limited to TW heads if I wanted to replace the heads. I decided to bite the bullet and buy new heads and a new turbo kit. The solution is:

TFS 11R 190cc Street Port with 66cc combustion chambers. 2.055/1.60" valves. They cleared the pistons fine and didn't even need different push rods. I also ordered a new B&G single turbo hotside with 1.75" primaries and a 2.5" crossover. It should be here in the next month or so. The engine is home now, I am not sure what I am going to do the with the 206 'R' heads. I may try them on the 351W after testing the ported D8s.

It wax the loosest JW 10” they made. It wasn’t a turbo specific convertor and it didn’t work that well for me. Wasn’t loose enough for good spool, was fine at full boost.

Back to this thread. I am currently putting the 327 in the car. My new BG Turbo kit has arrived and I am trying to install it.

This is the kit. What I didn't notice in the pictures on the website or when I took it out of the box is how far outboard the drivers side header goes. I went to put it on the engine and the drivers side header wouldn't even go into the car until I modified the motor mounts to move the engine 1" to the right.

It is on the engine now but it is so close to the brakes, ignition box, coil and wiring harnesses that I would be afraid to run it even wrapped. Something will get melted. I am disappointed that after such a long wait the kit doesn't work. Maybe it would be fine on a fuel injection car that doesn't have all the accessories on the drivers side but it sure isn't acceptable to me on an older car. I will talk to Bryan when I get a chance and see what it would cost to build a new drivers side header but even cost permitting I don't expect that it would be soon, In the mean time I am going to modify the homemade kit I had on the 351W and run it so I can drive the car. I already test fit it and it won't require much in the way of mods.

Man, your not kidding that header looks way farther over than pics of installs I have seen. Is your driveline centered? I took a closer look and it doesn’t look like you can shift the engine over any to gain some clearance on the drivers side. Man that’s really to bad, hard to believe that it could be that far off. If you can shift over the engine and trans a bit you might gain a bit but it does not look like you can. Does B&G get there kits made in China now?

The drive line was centered, not anymore and I can't move it more. I am assuming the kit was changed so it wouldn't interfere with the power steering and A/C. I have seen other kits with the header collector moved way outboard. To give an example of the difference my kit for the TFS 'R' heads with 2" primaries is 5.5" from the cylinder head and these headers are 8" with 1.75" primaries. Another possibility is that he gave me the wrong header for my car.

I modified the home built kit so it will fit the 327. It needed a 90 degree oil filter adapter to fit, it came in from Summit yesterday. This is where things sit now. I am not sure if I will order a new driver's side header or get this one modified. It cost me over $200 in shipping and brokerage to get the kit here so sending the header back to be modified is cost prohibitive. I will have to do something though since this home built kit won't flow nearly as well as the B&G kit.

What oil filter kit is that? I bought the FRPP one but couldn't get it to fit on my A4 block, but looks like you have yours canted forward more than I tried on mine.
