well I am new here but since no one has replied in weeks I guess any reply is better than none , first let say i have been quoted many times for my old saying " you get 6 engine builders in a room and ask 1 question you are gonna get 8 different answers and a fist fight " but I gotta say there is alot left out of your post . what are you gonna do with the car ?( what fuel , what induction carb blo thru , efi , direct or throttle body , what do you have in mind for a valve train hydraulic , mechanical, solid or hi roller , square or oval port heads, etc.?) as a rule on conservative driver stuff I kinda like to shoot for 1 hp per cube with internals tough enough to take the ass whipping of any power adder I may throw at it , but I mean you can get 500 + ponies from a 496 by accident so how much boost and fuel is gonna take to hit your #s is probably a question for some of the turbo brains out there .

A custom turbo cam would be your best bet. You can get to 1000 hp with stock heads with boost. A good set of aluminum heads around 325cc would do
Make more power with less boost

I am looking into the same combo (even in a first gen firebird), only Hydraulic Roller, Holley TBI (blow thru) air to air on pump gas. I talked to John at LJMS a couple of months ago and custom ground turbo camshafts is what he does. He is also a fan of the BBC, even though the LS platform is probably their biggest moneymaker. He gave me some pretty good advice, debunked some myths and set me straight on a few things. Give him a call and leave a message. He will call you back, may take a few days, but he will call.
