    Hey all
I run Mickey Thompson's SS on the street but they wear out so quickly.
Is there some other options that will give me decent grip but last longer than the MTs

M&H Racemaster radials. They are decent in the rain. They will be better than the SS, about like a summer tire.

If you can fit a big enough Continental Extreme Contact DW they also work OK, but size choices are limited.

My car has been around 1.4's 60 ft on M&H, in comparison it runs 2 seconds on Nitto 555's and mid 1.2's on MT SS.

My Nitto 555r are 6 years old and still hook great. Handle rain better than any other tire I have used. So far 12.0 on 7 lbs of boost. Turned up to 12lbs but have not been back to the track.

I don't know what 12.0 references, maybe 1/4 mile ET??

Nitto 555 tires are like a poor quality summer tire. They are barely better than a regular hard tire.

For anything close to equal size an M&H radial will outdo a 555 hands down in any car that is traction limited.

If you think the MTs wear out quick, don't try the M&H Racemasters. The Hoosier QTP hooks great on the street, but life is about the same as the MT.

I dont' agree with this at all. No doubt on a nice prep’d track the softer MT is king. But the 555r is actually a better tire for the street as they don't ball up like the MT radials do on asphalt and as mentioned they last 3-4x longer. After 2-3 pulls on the street with the MT radial you need to do a massive burnout on concrete to "clean" the tire. Otherwise they are twice as likely to let loose at big power levels.

The Nitto’s require a gradual power increase and they stick VERY well. MUCH better than a standard radial. They are actually the preferred tire for all the 60 to 160 Vbox racers out there and allowing quicker ET's than the softer MT radials.

It’s all about not letting the boost come in hard... soften the initial power hit and you can throw 1300+whp at 275 555r on asphalt.

555 and 555r are completely different tires. i can't say for the r variant as i havent used them but have looked at them but a regular 555 had less traction on the street than the smaller sized bridgestone potenzas they replaced, hard hit or slowly rolled into.

Yup. They wear quick when they get like this.

I'm going to toss in my $0.02 . I don't care what you buy for tires. You are going to have the very battle the OP is asking about. As far as street use goes you are either going to have a tire that last or one that hooks up well . Rain is a completely different issues as well. My advice is your car and power application are going to pair with your needs for tire life to guide you to a compromise somewhere in the middle of the field. I settled on 555R on my olds that is basically a cruise / weekend runner. I have ran everything from Hoosier to Mt on my hotter cars . I personally settled on the order original mt radials due to wet traction factor. I have never tried the Mt SS . Getting caught in the rain once with Hoosier qtp was enough for me. I loved that Hoosier for everything else, but I just can't deal with being on the Hwy and that pop up rain I damn near lost my car .
