Hello, posting for insight... i have currently had built a high nickle 440 block with half hardblock alminum mains with apr studs stage 6 max head with matching intake. Custom forged 7.98:1 pistons, high end billet forged molnar rods and stainless turbo rings gapped at .028 and .026 second ring standard oil ring gap, king triple coat bearings, 4.15 mopar stroke crank, custom .587 lift bullet flat tappet turbo. Engine is back and sittin in car awaiting tf8 trans to be complete with a bunch of light parts and super coan and t brake about two weeks away.. then off to plumbing the t6 in topped off with a fitech 1200hp,a1000 pump, ams1000 boost controller, meth inj to come. Please don't hyjack thread. Like many say im crazy for doing this to a fact 440 block.. fingers crossed unless someone wants to donate "sell cheap" a mega block less than .040 over bore. I will up load some pics as build progresses

Welcome fellow Mopar brother! I hope you don't consider this a hijack, but why the super low compression? It may be a dog off boost if the turbo is sized correctly. But let's see some more pics! :)

Thank you, well i chose the low compression because i want the max out of pump gas. Also with the ams 1000 boost controller you are able to select boost level in each gear, so i will have a selector switch for gear position and basically with the help of a dyno i will be able to select horsepower id like to run. The billet s488 turbo is good for 1450 hp.

Also kinda figured with the 500" motor it should spool a single turbo pretty quick...

I'm not sure how much research you did before choosing the s488, but just know that just because it will support 1450hp doesn't mean it will support that much on 500 cid. Most are running a single s400 framed turbo on at least 100 cid less than you have (or a very mild bb), and many are running twin s400's on 500 cid. Twin s400's may be overkill with the stage 6's, but any single s400 will be turbine limited on a build like yours imo.

Thank you, thats what im looking for. I do agree that is a good possibility the inducer exducer is 88/96 with 1.32 hot side. Looks like i will be limited to power because of the fitech 1200hp also. I thought about twin s488s but then feel the limit will still be the blocks capability to withstand the crank bob weight. I did read in here of another 500in turbo mopar 1000whp holding up for a few seasons with now problem but was very short reply. Havent been able to find anything else about it. Machine shop thinks im crazy for wasting the money on this project but hey to each there own. Its different. I hope to stay loyal to this thread and keep all up to date on all trial and errors. Mopar world needs a good read as i really cant find any.. back to the wasting time or money, must be why.. time will tell. Billet steel 5 gear planetary. Came in today and is the last missing piece for trans build.

I don't necessarily have a problem with the stock block, but the turbo choice is not the best imo for a couple reasons... 1. It's going to make boost low in rpm, which means below or at peak torque which in turn means massive torque, which is a stock block killer. 2. With a small turbine, the back pressure/boost ratio will be high, and counteract your low comp ratio, and pump gas plans. Twin T6 s475's would have been my choice, and the pair would have been the same or less than the 488. Good luck, i'll be following along.

I've been running a 500" rear mount mopar for about 8 years with a number of different turbo combinations so from my learning curve I recommend twins or a really big single. I'm using a tv8101 now that has an 85mm compressor and something like a 112/96mm hot side. 1.39 A/R. Letting the hot side breathe with this turbo added almost 1000 rpm to the power band. If I go higher than 15# boost the inlet air temp goes very high so it's out of turbo on my combo. Hope this info helps you pick your turbo or turbos. Keep us posted on your build.

Doing some stock block testing of my own. Two ebay GT 45's on a 470" B.B.M. 9.9 :1 compression, home made 3/8" girdle, with an E-85 homebuilt carb. No track times( because they would kick me out)but the power is like driving on wet pavement until about 50 m.p.h. Went 11.71 @121 with a tired 383 on pump gas.Sneaking up on the boost ,only up to 12 lbs. on the 470 now.

How do those gt45's spool up? I've been thinking about trying a pair on a 455 Oldsmobile. But was afraid they might spool to slow

Hard to say exactly what rpm they kick in.Had the cam and convertor builtfor this combo and its got enough torque to spin the tires and spool really quickly. If i had to guess id say by 3000 rpm it's well on its way.late season cold pavement required lots of pedaling even in second gear. Its a blast to drive if i can keep it pointed straight.
