Carb hat divider worth removing?

I'm sure this has been discussed a bunch of times before, but I have the standard EV hat with the divider plate. Is it worth removing the divider plate and if so, how much is it worth? What about the 1" EV spacer, it has a divider in it as well? I have seen some folks use a 2" spacer, is there any power in that? I would think the more space the air has to get straight to the carb the more efficient it would be, but I don't want to waste time/money if its just a gadget type thing.

    What do ya'll think? :2thumbs:

I don't have any experience of 1 vs the other, but I run the divider, and have had no problems at all. I run the hat clocked at the 3o'clock position. I would however like to run more spacer, but the hood clearance dictates my height.

The best scenario is air running straight down into the carb. Spacers help by allowing a little more time for it to straighten out. The divider/no divider well you can buy hats either way. I personally run the divider and have at anywhere from 4o'clock to 9 o'clock without issues with and without a spacer.

Someday it would be nice to dyno all this stuff to see what works and what doesn't....

It has been done . In the end all combo's are different. Really can't go wrong with Extreme Velocity or CSU.

The divider , in theory , should help straighten the air . If its run at 6:00 or 12:00 it can help the signal across the boosters and vent tubes . If its run at 9:00 or 3:00 it can also help fuel distribution from bank to bank but can hurt the signal to the vent tubes .

    In theory . :D

I myself have never used one with a divider . I run mine at 6:00 with 3" of spacer .

I run with the divider. It was at 4:30 and now is at 6o'clock. I picked up with the EV - the overall signal and distribution improved over my previous hats. I have considered upgrading to the undivided EV Pro hat - it has been proven to outperform the std at on combo's over 700hp

I run the EV hat with the divider. I ran it 1st with no spacer then I added a 1 1/2in spacer with no divider in it. It ran so much smoother with the spacer in place I just left it. I run my hat clocked between 1 and 2 with no issues. I cant decide if I should by the Pro hat without the divider when I up the boost from 15 to 20 or just keep what I have.

I'm thinking about going with a taller hat spacer, who makes them??

i have found that as i clock the divider, it changes idle.

i honestly dont think its all that good to have in there if you cant have it at 6 or 12 o'clock.

I removed my divider so I could make room for vent tube extensions, and honestly it dident make a difference.

It was a pain to remove and took about 2 hours total. Here is how I removed mine

No real gain in removing. There is a standard hat wo a divider for those who want that option. I suggest the Pro hat if you have the clearance and want a gain. I actually like the divided hat for use with vent extensions (tie them together on the inlet (divider)

After doing some flow testing I wont use a divider hat. The top side of the divider flows faster because of the longer sweeping radius at the rear of the hat. To compound it, the air is moving so fast on the top that it causes a low pressure , pulling air out of the bottom ( or short side radius) starving it.
I tested this after seeing some motors that had horrible front to rear distribution.

Maybe there is a situation where they work. But I dont know what it would be.

Most of the tubing on aircraft engines uses a divider where ever a tight radius is involved. My guess is alot more engineering went into an aircraft engine than a blow-thru turbo car. My divider stays.

....Yes, but engineered for an aircraft application, and for what reason? I think i'd want more info other than it works on an airplane.
