So I have this 454 2-bolt main motor that is going in my twin turbo setup. Was built to be about 600 hp NA.
Been thinking a lot about the strength of this. Anyone ever covert a 2-bolt to 4-bolt main? Rough idea what a machine shop may charge for this?

Plan to push close to 1000 hp..or so

It's been a long time but the price I seem to recall is $350ish. Likely will vary greatly depending on location and the shop you go to.

Just got off the phone with the shop. About $1000 total, including the new caps. They have to line bore and line hone as part of the process. Just gonna run it as is for now and save up for a better block

For 1Kish you'd be better off to save towards a Big M or similar IMO. Or perhaps skip to an OEM 4 bolt block depending on the machining to your current one.

Also may behoove you to check a few other shops, I think you could plausibly do better in price.

That's exactly what he suggested. His price for a Dart Big M is $500 less than I can get it for too

I put a good set of studs in the block & fabricated a set of .250" stainless bars ,to go over the main caps & bolted to spec. - in a 468" pro-gas engine ... then broke it in & commenced to BEAT the HELL out of it on the street / strip ! Never did have a problem .

I have had a 2 bolt 454 block in mine since 2008. Factory steel 396 crank, eagle .400 longer rods, and JE pistons. Makes over 1000 rwhp twin 70mm turbos. Have never had any issues at all.

Great to hear. I believe you told me that before.
I don't plan on going crazy and will keep the boost kind of low...maybe

When it was built for NA purposes, my builder said it's good to 7500 but I won't push it...yet

I have a 7600 chip in mine and hit it all the time. The short stroke and long rod lets it rev to the moon.

2 bolt bbc's are beefy compared to a most of the sbc's, and have the wide tapered caps like a 2 bolt 400 sbc. With a good set of studs I wouldn't be afraid to push the 1k fwhp level for some time.

The machine shop guy said he probably wouldn't trust the stock block much past 800. 800-1000hp is really all I'd want to push anyway. Not sure how much power a 10.5" tire will hold

Ive read and heard at 750-850 the caps walk 2 bolt or 4... but no one does thd 4 bolt conversions anymore.

All the stock block guys I know ran emachined straps over the mains, but now run girdles and swear by them.
