On 10psi it pulls down to 28-29 deg. Plugs show good timing here also.
    Stock bottom end. Car rods.

This fall im gonna put my old short block back together with h-beams rods and forged pistons. Bump the compression to low mid 9.0-1

I did our local 3 day, two track dragweek this past thursday - saturday. Really cool event. And like always, most car peeps are cool peeps.
I put in 380 miles from thursday morning until saturday night

I entered the 11.50 class cuz I dont have a roll bar.
1st track, Mid Michigan motorplex, 1st pass went 11.86@ 117 on 5 psi. 2nd pass was pretty much the same. Checked some plugs and got a log and called it.

2nd track , US 131 Motorsports park, 1st pass same thing as first.
Decided to add 2 psi and try the two step. Didnt really build boost so I rolled out , 60 ft was .2 worse and it went [email protected] @ 7psi . Let the car cool and made another pass foot braking it and it went 11.45@ 124.50. Called it for the day.

Back to the first track, third day. Left it on 7 psi, went out let off early and went 11.56@ 117. Used that for my 3rd time slip during the race event.
Turned the boost controller backup up to 9-10 how i had it on the street.
Went out and it was lazy thru 1st and cut boost 5 times during the run. Logs showed the boost controller pulled boost.
But for no obvious reason. And first had little to no boost. Most likely because the old ass headers on this thing started to rust thru and the whole trip the hole in one header just kept getting bigger. Still went 11.58 at 124 .
Then the trans started locking as I pulled away from the getting my time slip. (BTW, trans has was rebuilt 15 ish years ago, its been a champ)
    But then it didnt.
Made one more pass and it was doing the same.
So I called it and drove home 55 miles.

Gonna get to work on the trans freshen up and maybe upgrades, new headers , and fresh rebuilt motor.
BTW, motor is still a champ with ring, oil control issues being its 44 years old and never been touched since the factory.

Im happy with the results as i figured it would only go about 122mph. Definietly has near 130 if it had good boost in 1st gear and held 9-10 thru 2 and 3rd gear.

Goal is still high 10s. Just got to get it to front half.

Nice!! Sounds like a fun event. Get any footage or photos over the trip?
Are you going to upgrade the bottom end while you're in there or leave it stock?

yeh i got some pics. I'll see about the videos. They are all on Facebook.

Yeh have the other shortblock that I broke the piston in. Gonna build that with good rods and pistons. I so want to leave the stocker in there just to show they can take it. But the ring seal has been bad since I put it to use. And I would like to bump the compression up. And with the large chamber heads, there is no higher compression options in a stock replacement piston.
To add, stock replacement pistons dont have the internal metal support any more.

Often my buddies and I talk about doing the same combo in a Fox body. Like 1500 lbs lighter.
Easy 9s second SBE junk under 10 psi.

New rods and pistons are here. Should put me at 9.3ish compression. I could deck the block to get 9.6. Meh. Boost will make up for it. This will be a good improvement from 8.0 comp and whooped. I checked compression before I pulled them motor.
Averaged 140 psi on 6 cylinders. Two where 60 and 90. hahhahaha

Did you find anything that could have caused the lower compression on those cylinders? Or is the engine still together. Sounds like its coming along! Keep us updated :2thumbs:

Engine is still together. Shortblock was a stock pullout. It never had good ring seal from day one. Hard life I guess. Only had 85g on it according to the odometer. Bores didnt look all that good. I may be repeating my self. But it is seriously factory stock from 1973. Ive got another shortblock that I ran for years that the rods and piston are going in. Otherwise no major changes.
I will pull the current one down just to have a looksee once its out and give the low down on it.
