Hello from good ole' Indiana! I call this build "green grenade" cause I'm gonna force as much boost down this thing until it blows. The car is a 1991 mustang GT two-tone jewel green and silver. I picked this thing up about five years ago for 2500 bucks. Car is in really not too bad of shape with no rust underneath. The little 302 runs good, but as everyone knows, it's just not a strong enough foundation for big power. So I picked up a 351w out of a truck a couple of months ago for 300 bucks. I tore the 351 down, honed the cylinders, polished the crankshaft, put new rings and bearings in. I picked up some things from c-list on the cheap like new SVE heads, trick flow intake, and swap oil pan. Here is what I'm starting with...

Engine put together and priming just to be sure it has oil pressure.

Problem #1...I've got Elgin stainless 1.6 rockers. They hit the baffle. Gotta do some grinding.

Problem #2...the 351w solid drop mounts let the oil pan rest on the rack. May go look for some suitable spacer material tomorrow. IMG_0131.jpg #ad

Looking like you are off to a great start. As long as the engine has a good tune, and properly gapped rings, you will have a hard time blowing it up! 351w is a workhorse of an engine! I look forward to watching the build.

I'm sure you know, but be sure to space between the engine and mount not the k member and mount. Washers work fantastic

Thanks for the compliments guys! My plan is to get this thing in and running naturally aspirated...then throw on the turbo kit. My turbo knowledge stems from the only turbo car I've ever owned and that's the 1987 Buick GN you might see in the background. I've owned one other mustang and it was an '86 Gt I bought in San Diego after I got back from desert storm in the '90's. Soooo anywho...any comments and or criticism is welcome! If you see something I'm doing wrong or could do better please speak up. This is still gonna be a manual transmission car as well. To get the motor fired up and running I've acquired some 30lb Bosch ev1s, and a pro-m mass air meter calibrated for the 30's on the cheap from c-list.

I'm just gonna use the stock computer just to get it up and running for now. Once the really cold weather hits(I'm in Indiana so the cold weather is coming fast)I'll throw a turbo kit on it and invest in a more modern ecu. Could be a PNP megasquirt, could be the Holley, could be the Pro-M...I'm sure everybody will have some input on that.

I've got almost the exact same car that was abused and left for dead, and you're doing the build I have planned for the future, looking forward to seeing more!

Ok guys, quick update. I took Capt. Slows advice and put a couple of spacer nuts in between the block and motor mounts. Happy to report that it does fit pretty good. Got plenty of clearance between the rack and pan. I may try taking one spacer on each bolt out to see if I'd still be okay. Still haven't tried to address the baffle hitting the rocker yet but I'll try doing some grinding on that in a day or two. IMG_0132.jpg #ad

On the turbo kit...I'm debating building my own, I'm also considering buying a kit such as the ON3 and then modifying it to fit. As far as the turbo is concerned, the biggest I can fit is the plan. I'd like to at least hit low 9s with this thing....with a manual transmission as well lol! Should be good fun trying.

Anybody have any experience with these 351 solid drop motor mounts? I seem to have an extreme amount of clearance between the firewall and the back of the engine block. Maybe this is normal, but I can't remember how much space I had there before I pull the 302 out. I guess it is a possibility that I do have them on backwards, they are not labeled as to which side of the block they bolt to. IMG_0135.jpg #ad

Idk how much space there should be, but by the looks of it, I'd say the block should be back farther. I would flip them around and see how it turns out.
