Microsquirt...2 or 4 ignition outputs?

Im looking to use a Microsquirt unit for my turbo jet boat project. I know some (denmah/EFI source) have modified the microsquirt unit to have 4 ignition outputs for LSX set ups.

I am looking to use the typical 36-1 wheel and VR sensor for a crank sensor and wastefire LS coils.

    Now for the confusion:

This reference indicates 2 ignition drivers/outputs.............http://www.useasydocs.com/

This reference indicates 4 ignition drivers/outputs............http://www.msextra.com/feature-xref.html

So....can I buy a Microsquirt unit that can bank fire injectors and waste spark GM coils in a V8 four stroke? If I cant, I guess I will perform add ignition drivers and not perform the modifications to the crank sensor circuit.

should add that it is a 460 ford not the LSX

your first link is a link to the "base code" developers, it is very antiquated and don't know why it is still worked on. the second link is for the "extra code" it is more updated and maintained. so essentially it does 4 channel spark, the only reason it sais 2 in the first link is because it is software limited with that firmware.

It's pretty easy. I'd use LS1 or 4.8/5.3 truck coils. They spark hot, are cheap and reliable and have the drivers built in so you just feed them power, ground, and tie the logic lines together for waste spark.

    thats the plan:encouragement:

Do you still need to add pull up resistors for WLED and ALED for running LS coils (on a V8) with the latest Microsquirt?

Yes. The change was just in the firmware and didn't change the type of output. And having the pull ups permanently installed would cause problems with some other uses for the outputs.

What is the latest and greatest way of doing this? (resistor values, harness vs. internal, etc)....Most of the info I found was a few years old....If you could point me in the direction of your preferred method of accomplishing this I would appreciate it.

    Thanks!

1000 ohm resistors in the loom is the prescribed method in the manual......is there a better method for LS coil? since they use the 5V + logic signal to fire/trigger the coils...my concern is the 1000 ohm is the "generic" for the logic coils (perhaps others are fired by a different signal voltage?)...trying to cover my bases and do this once..lol

1000 ohms is fine for LS1 coils.

I bought one pre-modded by EFIsource and the soldered two surface mount resistors between the pins on the board. Much cleaner then adding resistors in the harness.

Instead ad of the two wires and resistors here, the surface-mount resistors just go from pin to pin:
