Searched and found little info about putting air filters on the PT101-118 turbos. Found a few threads, but some think a Pt101-106 will collapse any filter in front of them. I could see that with a too small or dirty filter, but not if it flows enough. How much airflow is needed for 1000-1200hp? How much filter?

Have been running a PT90 for years on the car with an air filter without issue at about 950hp. Don't plan to make much more power than before, just make it with less boost pressure and less turbo shaft speed. It is a street car more than anything else. So max power isn't needed usually.

The issue with the air filter is that the PT101-118 is that they have a 7" inlet. Any options out there? Could machine it down to 6". Then there are clamp on filters available.

    Thanks for any input

Bought a paper version of the K&N filter linked above. If it is a restriction (doubtful) will switch to the K&N version. K&N said their filter flows over 3000cfm. Paper should be similar. I think it is going to work. Still need to fab brackets to hold the filter, shouldn't be too bad. Everything is just tacked into place here, still needs finished.

Where did you buy that paper filter, and does it have a rubber inlet that clamps to the turbo?

    Thanks for the help.

Filter came from a local truck repair shop. Baldwin RS3530 filter. It is a common big rig filter. It does have a rubber inlet that radially seals to the turbo inlet, but it does not clamp. Will need a base and fasteners made to hold it in place. These are usually mounted in big canisters that hold them.

That is pretty slick, and being in the trunk I imagine that filter will last a good long time before needing replaced.

I'm in the same boat. I have the super-t series that has the Y2K compressor side, and its a struggle to figure out how to filter it within the space constraints.

K&N has a 7"X18" tapered filter that they said flow about 2400 IIRC. It has a clamp on 6" inlet. You could machine the inlet to 6"?

If it works I'll agree :D Had two filters about this size on a W900 dump truck, Went 200,000 plus and never needed replaced. Got that thing dirty and dusty all the time.

Welded a plate to the turbo to act as the base for the filter

Just using two 1/4-20 all threads to hold the filter on. Simple, but I think it will work.

Back from the dead. Ran the big truck filter and it worked without issue. Turbo worked but was a little slow to spool in the rear mount. Found out after that the cam was going flat, so that didn't help the spool any. Then moved the turbo to a front facing set up just behind the grill with an air box that could be run open just behind the grill. That also worked but did chip the compressor wheel after a few years and driving with it open a lot of the time.

Interesting thing is the air box had two small flat air filters that all the air went through when the box was closed, and the small filters never got sucked in or seemed to hurt how the car ran. Here the box is open

Here is a filter made by Vibrant that is a 7" clamp on cone. Not sure it will flow enough or won't collapse, but it does fit.

That caddy is sick! I had a 66 Calais two door hardtop for years. I loved that car, then an 80yo woman ran a red light and destroyed my baby. Got any more pics?

Have you looked into the Black HEX filters?

KN conical filters flow 68-72 CFM per sq./ft. of media at .5" w.g.
R2C Black air filters flow 480-495 CFM per sq./ft. of media at .5" w.g.

Should flow enough for the power you're making. Some of their filters flow 3000CFM!

Good luck, great looking car!
