Hey Everyone, this is the biggest collection of nationwide friends I have so I wanted to ask for input here. I am tired of Phoenix, lived here my whole life. My first pick is St George Utah ( I had a race there 2 years ago and I loved the place.) but I am slowly considering other places like west virginia, NC, SC, TX, etc. So I am looking for input.

I am tired of the heat, tired of the traffic, absurd home prices, HOA managed neighborhoods (95% of all houses built after 2000 have an HOA here), illegals, etc etc.

I'd move to a smaller town like St George in a heartbeat but I don't think I can find a job in my field in a smaller town. I make a decent living as an Information Technology manager and business analyst which means I might have to stick to the bigger cities, which stinks because I hate traffic. I don't want to live in the cold either, a little snow is ok but you won't see me in Minnesota anytime soon.

Any input is appreciated, I know we had a few people on here in Utah, not sure if anyone was close to St george though.

Other than being from snowy col ne Ohio I like the southwest area around you. Utah and big open space west is gorgeous but as stated where are the jobs? I dunno. If you remotely look in ohio Columbus is the place. A little snow but way less and warmer on avg than ne oh. Jobs, growth, cool car guys lol Southeast all the way to TX is way too hot/humid for me although they say you get used to it.

I left Phoenix 15 years ago and don't regret it for a minute. That city sucks!!!!

I know you said East, but have you thought about the Pacific NW? My mom lives in Oregon and I absolutely love it there! The winters aren't bad at all, hardly any snow at least where she lives. I'd imagine IT jobs would be easier to find there too.

 

Colorado Springs maybe? Got the mountains, not a lot of winter snow, 5 military bases with IT out the wazoo, Denver and Pueblo both an hour away with dragstrips

 

oregon isn't a bad idea, not sure about all the rain though and its a long way from the racing I like to do. Colorado springs is nice but my limited knowledge thinks its way too expensive. thanks for the ideas.

 

Come on out to Tennessee! We've got a ton of IT jobs, a solid economy*, and NO INCOME TAX!!!

*At least that's true here in Middle TN (Nashville, Franklin, Murfreesboro)

 

I live and work in Las Vegas. My company delivers to St George and it's a beautiful place. Oddly enough, there are quite a few high level IT jobs between the casinos and the military stations here. the spring and fall are perfect, but summer is a bit much. Housing is super cheap, but I'm skewed after living in Hawaii for years.

 

im an hour and half north of st george , actually going racing down there this comming weekend really nice place , also look at cedar city ut which is an 45 min drive north of st george

 

For an IT job in Utah i would think Provo would be the place to be, a little snow though.

 

Forgot to mention Provo has google fiber as well.
